Description:

SUMMARY: With supervision provides nursing assessment, treatment, and consultation as a member of the multidisciplinary team.

Essential Functions

  1. Provides acute nursing care to students.
  2. Administers medications to students.
  3. Conducts child health evaluations.
  4. Communicates & consults with staff, parents and community-based professionals.
  5. Supervises staff performing delegated nursing functions.
  6. Continues professional development and education.
  7. Provides & promotes health care to staff.

Marginal Functions

  1. Provides in service training.
  2. Supervises medication monitors.
  3. Prepares charts for new students.
  4. Performs additional duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS

Equipment Used: otoscope, ophthalmoscope, standard health assessment equipment, Nebulizer treatment machine, blood glucose monitoring equipment, tape recorder, telephone, walkie-talkie, automobile, AED, fax machine, golf cart and oxygen tanks.

Performance Standard: Must consistently demonstrate clinical competence in all areas of performance within recognized standards of the nursing profession.

Work Environment: Multiple indoor environments around campus with a variety of sound, lighting and temperature conditions.

Work Schedule: 36 hours per week Monday through Thursday (10:30pm-7:30am). Some flextime and occasional overtime including some weekend assignments. This position has an annual 11-month schedule.

Pay: Starting at $41.01 per hour and commensurate with education and experience, in keeping with the MSB Exempt Teachers and Related Service Providers pay scale.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, skills and general abilities:

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) to meet professional standards and practices.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of appropriate evaluation techniques with severely disabled children.
  3. General knowledge of disabling childhood conditions, physical growth and development, cognitive development, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, and communicable diseases.
  4. Currently licensed by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses.
  5. Must be at least 21 years of age.

After the first year in this position, the employee is required to have:

  1. General knowledge of basic gestural systems, behavior management, data collection and the impact visual impairment/blindness has on health status.
  2. General knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act regulations and service implications.
  3. General knowledge of MSB computer system, policy & procedures.
