Financial Counselor at Rutland Regional Medical Center – Rutland, Vermont

Responsible for identifying payer sources for uninsured and underinsured patients, and for identifying patient financial responsibility for services and collecting co-pays, deductibles and deposits prior to scheduled services. This position serves as liaison between the patient, the physician, the hospital and payers.

Minimum Education

• Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business, sociology or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Work Experience

• 2 years of related experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications

• Certified Application Counselor (CAC) or required to obtain within 90 days of hire

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

• Ability to review patients billing information in-person or on the phone verbally and in writing: explain financial assistance program and help with insurance enrollment when applicable.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policy and regulation of heathcare programs.
• Demonstrated moderate knowledge of medical terminology.
• Demonstrated moderate knowledge of basic computer skills.
• Math skills: required to calculate income, balances & deposits.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required to deal with patients from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise high degree of confidentiality.

Pay Range: $19.97 - $29.09
