About This Position
POSITION SUMMARY: The Med Surg Clinical Supervisor works closely with the Director of Med Surg to provide overall support of the Med Surg nursing staff and acts as a resource to Med Surg nursing staff. The Med Surg Clinical Supervisor identifies education needs of individual staff members and/or the Med Surg department as a whole and plans and implements educational offerings. The Med Surg Clinical Supervisor conducts performance reviews and collaborates with the Nursing Director to improve the overall performance of the department. The Med Surg Clinical Supervisor oversees the orientation and precepteeships of new employees. This position oversees annual skills/competency testing and assures orientation of nursing staff to new equipment and procedures. The Med Surg Clinical Supervisor conducts staff meetings and actively participates in department committee meetings. This position reviews and revises department policies and procedures. The Med Surg Clinical Supervisor may provide direct patient care and will also have scheduled time during each pay period to accomplish education, compliance, and clinical support responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of a school of nursing, current Alaska Nursing License and a minimum of 5 years of Nursing on Med Surg. Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing and management of patients in Med Surg setting. ACLS and PALS certification must be obtained within six months of hire. Prefer BSN, 1-2 years nursing management experience and Medical Surgical Registered Nurse certification preferred.
