Role:
To preserve the Credit Union's assets by controlling delinquent loan accounts, collecting delinquent loan payments, and/or recovering collateral.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Contacts delinquent accounts by phone, mail, text, and email; builds rapport with members; educates members on options available to resolve delinquency long term; takes appropriate action to bring current; Appropriate actions include but are not limited to analyzing the financial situation of delinquent borrowers, updating contact/employment information, offering various payment options, and coordinating with the Repo Specialist when necessary.
Performs loan recasts; researches accounts and provides overrides; verifies and processes deposits made to delinquent accounts.
Informs management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/charged-off loans.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
Collection efforts meet the goals of the department.
Optimal and timely recovery of credit union assets from delinquent and charged-off accounts.
Accurate and complete records of all collection and recovery activity.
Adherence to provisions outlined in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and ensuring collection activity is always within Credit Union policy and all relevant regulations.
Identification and reporting to management of potential underwriting problems.
Provision of informed, professional, and accurate service and support to all members and employees.
Complies with all applicable rules, regulations, and policies, including but not limited to BSA, OFAC, and Physical Security.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: One to three years of similar or related experience.
Education: A high school education or GED.
Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills: Ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak English clearly.
Normally expected to work between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. but may be required to work nights and/or weekends.
Must adhere to safety rules and regulations
