Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.

Position Overview

Bring your career development expertise to a role that helps people in our community move into work that lasts. We’re looking for a client-centred and results-driven Employment Counsellor to join our WorkBC Employment Services team at the Guildford Centre. If you’re motivated by helping people identify their strengths, work through barriers and reach their employment goals, we want to hear from you!

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, WorkBC Employment Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for achieving sustained employment outcomes across all three service delivery channels — Outreach, Virtual and WorkBC Centres. This includes conducting employability and formal needs assessments, developing collaborative return-to-work action plans, and providing case management, job coaching, follow-up support and referrals for clients seeking sponsored training or other long-term interventions. The role also involves administering and tracking financial supports in accordance with WorkBC policy and eligibility criteria, assisting clients through the application process for skills training, PBLMT, JCP, wage subsidy and self-employment, and building strong community connections to market clients and promote the program. Additionally, the Employment Counsellor will maintain accurate ICM data entry and record keeping, and meet the performance measurement, service level and outcome targets set by the funder. This position requires some work outside of regular office hours.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has a minimum of three years’ demonstrated experience in employment counselling, post-secondary education in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience with an emphasis on employment counselling. A Career Development Practitioner certificate is considered an asset. Well-developed computer skills in Microsoft Office are required, along with a strong ability to learn new software, including ICM.

This individual brings competent assessment skills using a comprehensive model appropriate to the client’s needs, excellent knowledge of labour market trends and of the employment and non-employment related services available in the community, and the ability to write and format resumes to current industry standards. Comfortable in a performance-based environment with a strong emphasis on sustained employment outcomes, they are independent, self-motivated and solutions-focused, with strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to make difficult decisions. They relate well to a diverse clientele, bring a sincere appreciation for a multicultural environment, and are committed to working as part of a team to achieve targets. A second language is an asset.

This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
