We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant who shares our commitment to excellence, accountability, and community impact.
This position plays a vital role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the organization's financial records while supporting informed decision-making through reliable financial reporting and analysis. The Staff Accountant will collaborate with internal departments to ensure compliance with accounting standards, strengthen financial processes, and support the agency's overall operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of cash balances and financial records.
- Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and organizational policies.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies, variances, and unusual account activity.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and documented.
- Assist with job costing activities by tracking project expenses and allocating costs appropriately.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including the preparation of financial statements and reports.
- Analyze financial data and provide detailed account reconciliations to support audits and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with department leaders to gather financial information and resolve accounting-related issues.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and internal controls.
- Support organizational compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Experience with bank reconciliations and general ledger accounting.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
- Experience preparing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience with job costing and project accounting.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar accounting platforms.
- Previous experience working in a nonprofit or human services environment.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis functions.
- Bilingual English/Spanish
