An effective Parts Bay Team Member operates machinery in a safe and efficient manner. They manage their time and materials effectively to maintain a steady flow of parts, helping to set a fast and productive pace for the entire production line. Task related skills:
• Safely use overhead cranes to move steel beams, tubes, plates and parts to and from working areas.
• Track parts with fabrication software.
• Safely use Brake Press Machine to bend plate to specifications noted on shop drawings.
• Safely use Iron workers to cut and punch holes in angle and plate parts.
• Safely use CNC Plasma Machine to cut out parts for the fit-up department.
• Operate handheld plasma cutter.
• Safely use the Deburring machine and/or hand grinders to remove slag and other debris from cut parts.
• Equipment start-up and shut down.
• Parts Bay area clean-up.
• Gather and count parts for pull lists

Structural welders must meet several physical demands due to the nature of the work:

Strength and Stamina: Ability to lift and carry heavy tools, materials, and equipment (often 100+ lbs). Some lifting may be sustained for long periods.
Manual Dexterity: Excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills to handle welding tools and perform precise welds.
Endurance: Ability to stand, stoop, crouch, kneel, or climb for extended periods.
Flexibility: Must be able to work in various positions, including overhead, vertical, and confined spaces.
Visual Acuity: Good vision (with or without correction) to inspect welds and read blueprints.
Balance and Coordination: Especially important when working at heights or on scaffolding.
Work Locations: Indoor fabrication shop and occasional outdoor work.
Weather Exposure: Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, rain, and wind.
A Parts Bay Team Member operates primarily in a structural steel fabrication shop, which presents a variety of environmental and physical hazards. The role requires strict adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Environmental Conditions:
• Exposure to high noise levels from cutting, grinding, and welding operations.
• Frequent presence of dust, fumes, and airborne particles, especially from welding and metal finishing.
• Variable temperatures due to open bay doors, welding heat, and seasonal changes.
• Occasional work at elevated heights or in confined spaces during inspections of large assemblies.
Physical Hazards:
• Risk of cuts, burns, and abrasions from sharp edges, hot surfaces, and welding equipment.
• Potential for impact injuries from moving steel components, brake press, iron worker, plate rack, overhead cranes, forklifts, and other heavy machinery.
• Exposure to welding arcs and UV radiation, requiring proper eye and skin protection.
• Manual handling of heavy tools and materials, requiring proper lifting techniques and ergonomic awareness.
Safety Requirements:
• Must wear appropriate PPE including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and flame-resistant clothing.
• Must be trained in many safety topics including but not limited to hazard communication (HazCom), lockout/tagout (LOTO), fall protection, and confined space entry procedures.
• Expected to participate in regular safety meetings, audits, and emergency drills.
• Responsible for reporting unsafe conditions and participating in continuous improvement of shop safety practices.
Compliance: Must follow OSHA safety standards and AISC Quality and Welding standards
Work Schedule: Mondays - Thursdays 6:30am to 5:00pm
Must be able to work overtime or Fridays as needed.
