Overview:
The Payroll Manager oversees all payroll operations to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely processing for all employees across Take2. This role plays a key part in maintaining financial integrity and driving operational efficiency. The Payroll Manager partners closely with People Operations and department leaders to manage payroll systems, reporting, audits, and process improvements that align with Take2 policies and federal, state, and local regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the full payroll cycle, ensuring accurate and timely processing for a workforce of 1,000+ employees across multiple pay groups, compensation structures, commissions, and draw programs.
- Oversee day-to-day Payroll operations, providing tactical leadership, guidance, and support to ensure accurate payroll processing, timekeeping management, commission administration, and compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and develop the Payroll team through clear performance expectations, accountability, training, and continuous process improvement initiatives to drive operational excellence and professional growth.
- Serve as the escalation point for payroll, commission, draw, and timesheet discrepancies, resolving issues promptly while providing clear communication and support to employees, managers, and leadership.
- Act as the primary owner and subject matter expert for payroll systems and processes, including onboarding setup within Costpoint and integration across payroll-related platforms.
- Serve as the primary trainer for payroll systems, processes, commission structures, draw administration, and compliance requirements, delivering onboarding and ongoing training to new hires, managers, and internal team members.
- Lead all payroll compliance activities, including payroll tax filings, wage and hour compliance, regulatory reporting, audits, and internal controls to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, leave requirements, commission payment requirements, and multi-state payroll compliance to proactively mitigate organizational risk.
- Partner closely with Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, and Business Unit leaders to support employee lifecycle transactions, payroll reconciliations, journal entries, compensation tracking, and month-end/year-end close activities.
- Own and manage all commission administration processes within Bullhorn, including commission setup, tracking, validation, reporting, approvals, payroll processing coordination, and distribution of commission statements to employees and leadership.
- Oversee and administer all employee draw programs and compensation metrics, ensuring accurate setup, tracking, reconciliation, reporting, repayment monitoring (where applicable), and payroll processing of all draw activity.
- Partner with Business Unit leaders to validate commission calculations, resolve compensation discrepancies, and ensure timely and accurate payout processing.
- Analyze payroll, commission, and draw workflows to identify opportunities for increased efficiency, automation, scalability, and enhanced internal controls while implementing payroll best practices.
- Support audits, reporting requests, and leadership inquiries by preparing payroll, commission, and compensation-related metrics, analytics, and documentation with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Ensure payroll operations maintain strong service levels, responsiveness, confidentiality, and alignment with company policies and strategic business objectives.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 8+ years of payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional)?certification preferred
Qualifications:
- Experience managing payroll for a multi-state workforce of 500+ employees (experience with federal contracting or government compliance is a plus)
- Strong knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., Paylocity and ADP)
- Experience preparing for and supporting internal/external audits and compliance reviews
- Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to create reports, analyze data, and identify trends
- In-depth understanding of payroll regulations, tax compliance, multi-state and jurisdiction tax requirements, and reporting requirements
- Proven ability to lead, develop, and mentor a payroll team while fostering accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to partner effectively with HR, Finance, and Business Unit leaders
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Maintains strict confidentiality and exercises sound judgment when handling sensitive employee and financial information
