Camp Fire Long Beach is a nonprofit youth organization in Long Beach that runs youth programs, day camps, leadership activities, and after-school programming.
Job Title: Program Director- Afterschool Programs
Classification: FT, Non-exempt, hourly
Reports to: Director of Afterschool Programs, Director of Operations, or Executive Director
Supervises: Site Coordinators/Directors
Responsible for: The Program Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and quality of Camp Fire’s afterschool programs across multiple school sites in Long Beach USD and/or ABC USD. This role ensures that programs operate at the highest standard, meeting district requirements and Camp Fire’s mission. The Program Director oversees hiring, training, and coaching of Site Coordinators, manages program operations, and serves as the primary liaison between school districts, families, and Camp Fire leadership.
Essential Job Duties:
1. Leadership & Staff Management
· Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and evaluate Site Coordinators and support staff.
· Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and professional development to Site Coordinators.
· Conduct regular site visits to observe program quality, staff performance, and student engagement.
· Ensure proper staff-to-child ratios and compliance with all safety and district policies.
2. Program Oversight & Quality Improvement
· Develop, implement, and monitor high-quality afterschool programming, including academic support, enrichment, sports leagues, and field trips.
· Ensure programs align with Camp Fire’s mission, values, and educational standards.
· Lead Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives, including safety assessments and program evaluations.
· Collaborate with school administrators and district leadership to align programming with school-day goals.
3. Operational & Administrative Management
· Oversee program scheduling, logistics, and compliance with school district contracts.
· Manage budgets, purchasing, and resource allocation for program sites.
· Maintain accurate records (attendance, incident reports, staff certifications).
· Ensure all sites adhere to health, safety, and licensing requirements.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
· Serve as the primary liaison between school districts (LBUSD & ABC USD), attending leadership meetings and representing Camp Fire.
· Address parent concerns, behavioral issues, and student disciplinary matters in collaboration with Site Coordinators.
· Foster strong relationships with school staff, district personnel, and community partners.
5. Program Development & Innovation
· Support Camp Fire initiatives (e.g., youth leadership, STEM, outdoor education) at school sites.
· Collaborate with other Camp Fire Program Directors to ensure consistency and excellence across programs.
· Identify and implement new enrichment opportunities (field trips, guest speakers, extracurricular activities).
Qualifications & Skills:
· Bachelor’s degree in Education, Youth Development, Nonprofit Management, or related field (sufficient experience can be substituted).
· 5+ years in youth program management, with 3+ years in a supervisory role (afterschool/school-based programs preferred).
· Strong knowledge of LBUSD and ABC USD policies and afterschool program requirements (ASES, 21stCCLC).
· Experience in staff training, curriculum development, and program evaluation.
· Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.
· Ability to problem-solve, multitask, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
· Bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred.
· CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain).
· Must pass Live Scan background check and TB clearance.
Working Conditions:
· Hybrid role: Office, school sites, and district meetings (local travel required).
· Some evenings/weekends for events, trainings, or parent meetings.
· Moderate physical activity (walking, standing, lifting up to 30 lbs).
Additional Responsibilities:
1. May participate in special events or field trips, supporting program-related activities.
2. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Program Manager or Executive Director.

The pay range for this role is:
31 - 34 USD per hour(Camp Fire HQ)
