Job Description

SUMMARY

To provide quality customer service to all Off Track Betting and Live Horse Racing patrons and assist them with placing wagers and utilizing betting machines. To develop, enhance and maintain positive and effective relations with customers and other employees. To operate within and comply with all rules and regulations put forth by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) and the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency.

Candidate must possess strong:

  • Ability to organize and communicate thoughts
  • Ability to carry out responsibilities with limited supervision

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Providing exceptional customer service.
  2. Processing horse racing bets on specialized betting terminals.
  3. Maintains and balances a float.
  4. Responds to and resolves guest issues, escalates as required.
  5. Provides basic technical support for betting machines, machine malfunction diagnosis.
  6. Trouble-shooting: reporting any suspicious activity to Security or Supervisor.
  7. Trouble-shooting: reporting any machine malfunction that will require a service technician.
  8. Preparation and maintenance of decoders and televisions.
  9. Identifies and reports counterfeit bills. (Cashiers and Managers)
  10. Follows all rules outlined by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) and the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency.
  11. All other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Related Off-Track Betting (OTB) experience preferred but not essential.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills using English

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic mathematical skills.

REASONING ABILITY

Takes actions, makes recommendations beyond the scope of essential duties which may impact other departments.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Basic computer skills preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arm’s length, and to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Essential duties require lifting 20 or more pounds and working a standard workweek with additional hours on a routine basis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Essential duties involve working with large numbers of people while primarily in an inside environment which is frequently loud or containing high noise levels.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED

General office equipment is also used including computers, fax machines, photocopiers and scanners.
