GEOINT Source Strategies AnalystNGA · GEOINT COLLECTION · SOURCE STRATEGY · EXPERT · KEY POSITION
Overhead collection is only as good as the strategy behind it. As a GEOINT Source Strategies Analyst at the Expert level, you are the architect — translating complex intelligence needs into multi-source collection strategies that maximize coverage, minimize gaps, and keep pace with a collection environment that never stops evolving. Your decisions shape what gets tasked, when, and why.
The GEOINT Source Strategies Analyst applies deep expertise across the full tasking, collection, processing, exploitation, and dissemination (TCPED) pipeline to develop comprehensive multi-intelligence collection strategies for complex and unusual intelligence problems. At the Expert level, you are an authority on both traditional and emerging overhead sensors, automated collection approaches, and the inferencing methodologies that extract meaning from temporal and spatial data. You work across NSG and IC collection management structures, collaborate with data scientists and source providers, and guide customers through the intelligence needs development process from research phase through tasking.
Source-Derived Role Summary
The Discover and Collection Specialist collaborates with customers and source providers to develop comprehensive multi-intelligence, multi-source strategies to address complex or unusual intelligence problems. Position supports real-time and activity-based collection, automated collection strategies, and sensemaking of large multi-source datasets in support of GEOINT collection management.
- ✓Develop and refine multi-source, multi-intelligence collection strategies to address complex or time-sensitive intelligence problems — balancing sensor availability, phenomenology constraints, and collection priorities
- ✓Support the research phase of Information Need development; advise customers and collection managers on how phenomenology impacts tasking decisions across traditional and non-traditional GEOINT sensors
- ✓Manage large multi-source datasets: sense-make across feeds, assess model output confidence and reliability metrics, and translate findings into actionable collection recommendations
- ✓Develop automated collection strategies and work alongside data scientists to apply inferencing methodologies that extract insights from temporal and spatial datasets
- ✓Navigate NSG and IC collection management structures and collaborative tools to coordinate GEOINT collection, production, and visualization across geographically dispersed teams
- ✓Multi-task across simultaneous day-to-day operational demands in a program management environment supporting several geographically separated locations
Mission Impact
Collection strategy determines what intelligence gets collected — and what doesn't. The strategies you build directly influence NGA's ability to deliver timely, accurate GEOINT to customers across the IC and DOD. When the strategy is right, nothing important gets missed.
Geo Owl Impact
As an Expert-level Key Position on this program, your technical authority and customer relationships are central to Geo Owl's performance. You set the standard for what excellent source strategy work looks like on this contract.
Your Growth
You'll expand your expertise at the intersection of traditional collection management and emerging automated and AI-enabled collection approaches — a domain growing rapidly in importance across the IC.
- ▸Collaborate with customers and source providers to develop comprehensive multi-intelligence, multi-source strategies that address complex and unusual intelligence problems
- ▸Apply full TCPED lifecycle expertise — from information need development and tasking through collection, processing, exploitation, and dissemination — including real-time and activity-based collection
- ▸Manage and sense-make large multi-source datasets; assess metrics associated with model output confidence and reliability to inform collection decisions
- ▸Develop automated collection strategies; apply inferencing methodologies that derive insights from temporal and spatial datasets in collaboration with data scientists
- ▸Support the research phase of Information Need development; advise on the impacts of phenomenology on tasking decisions for traditional and non-traditional GEOINT sources
- ▸Navigate NSG focus areas and collection management structures; leverage IC collaborative tools for GEOINT collection, production, and visualization
- ▸Leverage GEOINT collection management systems to coordinate collection activity across the community, reflecting knowledge of GEOINT focus areas and community structure
- ✓TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
- ✓Minimum 18 experience points required (see experience point calculation below)
- ✓HS diploma or GED
- ✓10+ years of experience with TCPED of GEOINT data, including support to real-time and activity-based collection
- ✓7+ years of experience managing large multi-source data, sensemaking, assessing metrics associated with model output confidence/reliability, developing automated collection strategies, and working with data scientists
- ✓Knowledge of traditional and developing overhead sensors and capabilities; exposure to automated collection strategies and inferencing methodologies deriving insights from temporal and spatial datasets
- ✓Experience with NSG focus areas and collection management structures, including NSG/IC collaborative tools for GEOINT collection, production, and visualization
- ✓Ability to collaborate with customers and source providers to develop comprehensive multi-intelligence, multi-source strategies for complex or unusual intelligence problems
- ✓Ability to support research phase of Information Need development and understand impacts of phenomenology on tasking of traditional and non-traditional GEOINT
- ✓Experience with GEOINT collection management systems reflecting knowledge of the GEOINT Community, its focus areas, and its collection management structures
- ✓Experience multi-tasking across day-to-day operations in a program management and professional environment spanning multiple geographically separated locations
Preferred Qualifications
- ▸Experience providing feedback to assist with development of training materials
- ▸Experience with research, evaluation, and documentation of unique and non-traditional National Technical Means (NTM) sensor capabilities
- ▸Experience turning intelligence capabilities and workflows into learning objectives for training audiences
- ▸Operational experience with vector data
Experience Point Requirement
This is an Expert-level (Level 5) position requiring a minimum of 18 experience points. Points are calculated as follows:
- Education: Associate's = 2 pts · Bachelor's = 3 pts · Master's = +2 pts · PhD = +3 pts
- Professional / Military Experience: 1 pt per year of relevant experience
- Certifications: 0.5 pts each
- Specialized Training: 0.25 pts per relevant course
- Professional Impact (publications, presentations, patents): up to 3 pts total
- ▸You think in collection architectures — you see sensor gaps, timing windows, and coverage conflicts before they become problems
- ▸You're fluent in phenomenology — you know how sensor physics and collection geometry shape what can and can't be collected, and you build strategy around those realities
- ▸You bridge the analytic and technical worlds — you can work alongside data scientists applying inferencing models and translate their outputs into collection decisions
- ▸You manage competing priorities under operational pressure — multiple customers, multiple locations, and a collection environment that doesn't pause for administrative overhead
- ▸You communicate with precision — you can take a complex intelligence need, translate it into a taskable collection requirement, and explain the tradeoffs to both customers and source managers
✔ Great Fit
You are a senior GEOINT collection professional with a decade or more of operational TCPED experience and a deep understanding of both the technical and analytic dimensions of collection strategy. You're energized by complex intelligence problems, comfortable working across the IC at pace, and ready to serve as an authoritative voice on multi-source collection at the Expert level.
✘ May Not Be For You
This may not be the right fit if your background is primarily in imagery exploitation or all-source analysis without direct collection management and TCPED experience, or if you prefer a slower operational tempo without multi-customer, multi-location demand.
This role places you at the intersection of traditional GEOINT collection management and the emerging automated, AI-informed collection strategies reshaping how the IC tasks and curates overhead imagery. At the Expert level, you'll build relationships across NGA, the IC, and key source stakeholders that are difficult to replicate elsewhere — while developing technical fluency in the model-driven collection approaches that are rapidly becoming central to the mission. That combination of operational depth and emerging-capability expertise is a significant differentiator for senior GEOINT professionals.
