The AVP, Facilities Underwriting will support underwriting strategy, operational execution, and portfolio performance while helping establish scalable processes and innovative approaches to risk evaluation. The role requires strong judgment, collaboration, and the ability to balance growth objectives with underwriting integrity.
- Partner with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to develop and enhance facilities underwriting offerings, including underwriting guidelines, appetite guides, policy forms, endorsements, and related materials.
- Support the creation of scalable and repeatable underwriting processes focused on profitable growth and operational efficiency.
- Analyze, evaluate, and make underwriting decisions aligned with established guidelines and risk recommendations.
- Manage new business submissions, renewals, and policy change requests across the facilities portfolio.
- Review insurance contracts, policy wording, and related documentation while serving as an authorized contract reviewer/signatory.
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on claims and loss activity to support portfolio performance improvements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable state insurance regulations and statutory requirements.
- Collaborate with business development teams to strengthen relationships with brokers and distribution partners.
- Apply a data-driven mindset to improve underwriting decisions and help advance modern risk assessment approaches.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, mitigate risk, and enhance overall underwriting outcomes.
The ideal candidate is an experienced underwriting professional with strong expertise in medical professional liability and facilities insurance. They should combine technical underwriting knowledge with analytical thinking, business judgment, and the ability to thrive in an innovative environment.
- 5+ years of experience as a senior underwriter specializing in facilities or medical professional liability insurance.
- 10+ years of overall underwriting experience, with relevant certifications or professional designations considered a plus.
- Strong knowledge of facility types, facility rating methodologies, risk indicators, and underwriting risk mitigation strategies.
- Deep understanding of the facilities insurance segment, including major carriers and broker relationships.
- Experience evaluating complex risks and making sound underwriting decisions.
- Familiarity with applicable insurance regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience in production underwriting is highly valued.
- Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and operate effectively in a results-oriented environment.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
