Cyber Security Subject Matter Expert

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Cyber Security Subject Matter Expert based in the United States.

This is a strategic opportunity for an experienced cybersecurity professional to support the protection and authorization of complex information systems within a mission-focused environment. In this role, you will provide expert guidance on cybersecurity policies, Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes, vulnerability assessments, and security control implementation. You will work with advanced security frameworks and compliance requirements to help organizations maintain secure and resilient IT infrastructures. The position offers the chance to influence cybersecurity strategies, advise leadership, and contribute to the protection of critical systems. Accountabilities
  • Serve as a cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert supporting Assessment and Authorization (A&A) activities, information system security processes, and cybersecurity compliance initiatives.
  • Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities, including system authorization, continuous monitoring, and maintaining compliance with cybersecurity policies and standards.
  • Analyze security controls based on NIST 800-53 requirements and assess their applicability across complex IT environments, including cloud services, applications, operational technologies, and enterprise systems.
  • Evaluate vulnerabilities, determine residual risks, and provide recommendations regarding potential impacts on current or future system authorization decisions.
  • Conduct cybersecurity research, analysis, and assessments to support the development of effective security strategies and solutions.
  • Recommend cybersecurity tools and support the implementation of security technologies, including product-specific Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) based on applicable DISA Security Requirements Guides (SRGs).
  • Perform vulnerability assessments, penetration testing activities, and Cybersecurity Compliance and Readiness Inspections (CCRI) across networks, databases, applications, and IT environments.
  • Apply advanced cybersecurity methodologies and technical expertise to solve complex security challenges.
  • Develop cybersecurity concepts, processes, and solutions that improve organizational security posture.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and deliver briefings to senior leadership and stakeholders regarding cybersecurity findings and progress.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of relevant Cybersecurity Assessment and Authorization (C&A) experience, including Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST cybersecurity processes.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity environments and compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of security control assessment, authorization reviews, and enterprise cybersecurity risk management.
  • Advanced knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, policies, procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Experience implementing and configuring networks and network security components.
  • Proven ability to conduct vulnerability assessments, security evaluations, and cybersecurity analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex security challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create technical documentation and present findings to leadership.
  • Ability to work independently while managing complex cybersecurity initiatives and long-term objectives.
  • Active Secret clearance required.
  • Must possess or be eligible for DoD Approved 8570/8140 Baseline Certification: IAM Level III.
  • Experience with large-scale enterprise IT environments is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field is preferred.
