About This Position

At Merrimack Health, we are committed to pay transparency and equity. The base salary range is $26.79 to $37.50 hourly, excluding fringe benefits and potential bonuses.

Your final base salary will be determined based on your education, experience, licensure, and internal equity considerations. Offers are typically made below the top of the range to support future salary growth

As the Sergeant, you will be under the Director of Security and Manager, the Sergeant performs activities involved in the day-to-day supervision of the Security Department facilitating efficient and cost-effective operations while fostering a positive image for the department and hospital organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assign, coordinate, plan and supervise the work of shift employees, according to department policies.
  • Perform all duties of Security Officer and Security Dispatcher, as needed.
  • Confer with previous shift supervisor, and check email upon arrival and throughout shift.
  • Recommend various personnel actions including hiring, promotion, transfer and termination. Conduct Performance Previews regularly for assigned staff. Initiate disciplinary action as necessary. Assist with orienting new employees; provide on the job and in-service training of personnel.
  • Promote the growth and development of shift employees.
  • Attend department in-service programs, department staff meetings and complete training modules, such as suicide prevention, as assigned.
  • Act as security point of contact for all emergencies, serious incidents and law enforcement activity after hours. Maintain regular communication with Nursing Supervisors after hours.
  • Ensure incident reports are written, as required.
  • Ensure adequate coverage for the next shift and special details.
  • Responsible for the performance of additional duties, as assigned.
  • Conduct planned fire drills.
  • Notify security management of serious incidents.
  • Ensure all shift equipment and security vehicles are in working order. Report any issues to Security Management.
  • Participate in the revision or development of policies and procedures.

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year experience in the security field, preferably healthcare security.
  • Completed a course and be certified in Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB), within thirty days of hire.
  • Completed a course/ and be certified in Handcuffing Restraint Techniques (PATH) within thirty days of hire.
  • Completed a course/ and be certified in Oleo-capsicum (OCAT) within thirty days of hire.
  • Basic Healthcare Security Officer Certification with the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety, within 90 days of hire.
  • Advanced Healthcare Security Officer Certification with the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety, within 6 months of hire/ promotion.
  • Healthcare Security Officer Supervisory Certification with the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety, within 6 months of hire/ promotion
  • Be willing to attend a Massachusetts Reserve Police Academy, within one year of hire / promotion.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred:
  • Associates degree in Criminal Justice, or higher, preferred.
  • One year of supervisory experience, preferably in the healthcare setting.
