Position SummaryThe Director of Accounting will lead all day-to-day accounting operations and serve as a key strategic partner to the CFO and executive team. This individual will oversee the general ledger, financial close, reporting, internal controls, and compliance functions, while mentoring a team of accounting professionals. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep technical accounting expertise, a continuous-improvement mindset, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insight.
Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting Operations & Close- Direct the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely results.
- Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and revenue recognition.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain and continuously improve the chart of accounts and accounting policies in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
- Partner with FP&A on budget vs. actual variance analysis and reporting packages for leadership and the board.
- Produce ad hoc analyses to support strategic initiatives, contract performance, and operational decision-making.
- Design, implement, and maintain a strong internal control environment, including SOX-aligned policies where applicable.
- Lead the annual external audit process, serving as the primary point of contact for auditors.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax filings, regulatory reporting, and other statutory requirements.
- Serve as the accounting owner of the ERP system, driving optimization, automation, and data integrity.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reporting quality.
- Partner with IT and cross-functional teams on system integrations, upgrades, and reporting tools.
- Build, develop, and mentor a high-performing accounting team.
- Set clear performance goals, provide regular feedback, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Manage workload distribution, hiring, and succession planning within the function.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Active CPA license required.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3-5 years in a management or leadership role.
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated experience leading month-end close, financial reporting, and external audits.
- Proven ability to design and maintain effective internal controls.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- NetSuite ERP experience strongly preferred.
- Public accounting background (Big 4 or national firm) combined with industry experience.
- Experience in healthcare, ACO, value-based care, or similarly regulated industries.
- Familiarity with FP&A tools and reporting platforms (e.g., Adaptive, Power BI, Tableau).
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
