About This Position

Description:

Summary:

The litigation legal assistant supports attorneys in managing high-volume civil litigation cases in state and federal courts. The role centers on assisting attorneys with administrative tasks, pleading and correspondence preparation, calendaring and docketing, assistance with trial preparation, document management, and filing documents in multiple courts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Case administration: maintain and organize case files, track deadlines, manage attorney calendars, and coordinate hearings, depositions, and mediations.
  • Document drafting & formatting: prepare and proofread pleadings, motions, discovery requests ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
  • Court filings: handle state and federal filings and ensure compliance with local rules.
  • Scheduling: managing litigation calendars, scheduling appointments, meetings, and court appearances in compliance with deadlines
  • Client communication: serve as a liaison with clients, experts, and court personnel to coordinate schedules and gather information as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of legal terminology, court procedures, and litigation processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal research databases.
  • Strong scheduling, file management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, proactively, and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.

Working Conditions:

  • The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (typical office or administrative work).

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred).
  • At least 3 years of current Arizona experience as a legal assistant with a focus on commercial and insurance defense litigation.
