Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.
We are searching for a full-time Custodian - 2nd Shift-Evening, primarily for the evening hours at the RecPlex facility. Reporting to the Parks and Planning Division Manager, the full-time Custodian - 2nd Shift Evening is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to ensure and maintain the cleanliness, general appearance of the indoors and outdoors, and general organization of a park district facility, as directed by the Parks and Planning Division Manager, Buildings Department Manager or Director of Parks and Planning. The 2nd shift evening hours include 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
The full-time Custodian - 2nd Shift-Evening must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and pre-employment physical with a drug screen. The starting pay rate for the full-time Custodian - 2nd Shift-Evening working primarily at RecPlex is $18.00 per hour plus $1 per hour evening shift differential, for a total of $19.00 per hour. Requirements:ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Perform custodial maintenance in the upkeep of buildings including cleaning, stripping, waxing floors, cleaning restroom, replenishing supplies, emptying trash, and general grounds upkeep.
Work with the Buildings Department Manager to determine tasks needed for specific assigned facilities.
Physically set-up and take down rooms (i.e. furniture, chairs, etc.) for various park programs and rentals.
Report any building/site maintenance problems to the Facility Manager or Buildings Department Manager.
Keep immediate grounds free of litter and debris.
Perform exterior maintenance as needed on a year-round basis including snow removal.
Communicate with staff, patrons and the general public while exhibiting patience and understanding.
Participate in the Park District’s Safety Training programs. Be familiar with and abide by Park District policies and procedures. Weekend availability is an essential part of this job.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
May be required to work special events from time to time during the daytime and on the weekend.
Perform other duties as they arise to maintain the facility at the standards established. Inventory reporting on supplies that are needed. Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.
All other duties as assigned by the Parks and Planning Division Manager, Buildings Department Manager, Director of Parks and Planning, and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have high school education or G.E.D. equivalent or any combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge and skills for this position. Must have previous custodial experience.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must have reliable transportation. The ability to operate and drive a vehicle is an essential job function of the full-time Custodian position.
Must be able to physically perform all custodial-related duties.
Must possess knowledge in the use of common hand tools and power tools. Must have solid knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment and procedures.
Must be able to work independently and with limited supervision.
Must be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for the coordination of work and in emergency situations.
Must be able to exhibit patience and understanding with patrons, staff and the general public.
Must be able to abide by Park District policies and procedures.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. May be required to work special events and provide weekend coverage, as needed.
Physical Job Qualifications: Must be physically able to: frequently ascend/descend more than a 25% grade, lift 50 lbs. from a squat position, push/pull, reach, walk; occasionally balance, bend (must be able to bend at waist and touch the floor with fingertips), climb, crawl, crouch, kneel for long periods of time, sit, stoop; and constantly handle objects.
The general office work area is an indoor, smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. When outdoors, may be exposed to weather conditions including rain, sun, wind, high humidity, and excessive heat and cold.
May be exposed to noise distractions from employees or equipment operation in work areas. Additionally, may be exposure to cleaning materials.
Due to the needs of the Park District daytime, evening and weekend hours may be required. Your work schedule may vary and your workweek may exceed regular hours at times. Please note that regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
