Audiologist

Title: Audiologist

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, an incumbent in this class performs direct clinical activities including audiological screenings, evaluations, treatment and consultation.

Responsibilities:

Conducts audiological evaluations of patients determining the most beneficial method of habilitation/rehabilitation, which is consistent with established indicators, guidelines and procedures of the practice.

Administers and interprets standard audiological diagnostic tests such as auditory brainstem response, infant hearing screening, audiometry, pediatric audiometry, standard hearing evaluations, hearing aid evaluations, aural habilitation/rehabilitation and special audiometric tests to establish the degree, implications and management of the hearing loss.

Interviews patients and families to gather data and developmental histories to aid in the diagnosis and management of patients.

Counsels and recommends course of habilitation/rehabilitation and/or medical intervention to the patient and family relating to the hearing disorder.

Recommends and provides habilitation/rehabilitation services such as assistive listening devices and hearing aids to patients, monitors progress and conducts follow up evaluations to ensure that services are consistent with established indicators and guidelines. Provide guidelines for appropriate rehabilitation and educational needs for children with hearing loss including classroom accommodations, and needed school services e.g. audiology, teacher of deaf, and speech therapy services.

Consults with physicians, social workers, teachers and speech-language pathologists in developing and implementing intervention strategies such as education and aural habilitation/rehabilitation programs.

Prepares written reports of evaluations, recommendations and progress, and insures proper dissemination.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience: At least 2 years of experience as an Audiologist in a hospital or clinic setting

Education: Doctoral degree in Audiology (AuD or PhD)

Licenses / Certifications: NY State Audiology License
