Safety Sensitive Position:
This position is designated as safety-sensitive. Employees are expected to maintain the highest level of safety awareness and comply with all company, DOT, state, and federal regulations.

Position Summary

The Class A CDL Utility Driver is a versatile transportation professional responsible for safely collecting, transporting, and delivering organic waste and related materials across designated service routes. This role provides operational support by covering multiple routes, assisting different terminals, and adapting to changing business needs. Utility Drivers should expect to operate throughout their assigned region and occasionally on interstate routes while maintaining exceptional customer service and strict compliance with all safety regulations.

This position requires flexibility, reliability, and a strong commitment to supporting daily operations wherever needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Safely load, haul, and deliver food waste on intra- and interstate routes with 15–25 customer stops per day.
  • Operate a variety of commercial vehicles, including 30–45' open-top dump trailers (combination vehicles).
  • Safely operate both manual and automatic transmission commercial vehicles.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with DOT regulations.
  • Operate manual and electric pallet jacks as needed.
  • Clean customer containers and work areas using a pressure washer, ensuring every service location is left clean and free of debris.
  • Perform routine repairs and maintenance on company bins and equipment using basic hand tools.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and operational readiness of assigned trucks and equipment.
  • Utilize Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) to maintain DOT compliance and accurately record Hours of Service.
  • Complete and submit all required documentation, including service tickets, contamination reports, inspection reports, and maintenance records.
  • Communicate professionally with customers to ensure excellent service and resolve routine service concerns.
  • Maintain regular communication with dispatch, operations, and corporate teams regarding service updates, equipment issues, and customer needs.
  • Immediately report all accidents, injuries, equipment damage, and safety concerns.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings, training sessions, and company communications.
  • Use company-issued computers and mobile devices for training, communication, expense reporting, and operational tasks.
  • Support operations by working alternate routes, facilities, or interstate assignments as business needs require.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and local, state, and federal laws.
QualificationsRequired
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record and ability to meet DOT qualification standards.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Strong commitment to safety and customer service.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the assigned region and operate interstate routes as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates who do not currently possess a Class A CDL must demonstrate a commitment to obtaining one within their first year of employment.
  • Previous experience operating utility trucks or vehicles equipped with specialized utility equipment.
  • Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform minor vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Experience operating pallet jacks, pressure washers, or other material handling equipment.
Work Environment
  • Frequent entry and exit from commercial vehicles throughout the workday.
  • Outdoor work performed in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to organic materials, mud, dust, odors, and uneven terrain.
  • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, kneeling, and walking.
Schedule
  • Full-time hourly position.
  • Routes may include local, regional, and interstate travel.
  • Flexibility to work seasonal schedules of up to 60 hours in a 7-day period or 70 hours in an 8-day period, as permitted by DOT regulations.
  • Weekend, holiday, early morning, or evening work may be required based on operational needs.
