Typical tasks include:
- Public outreach and education, visiting restaurants, giving civic league talks, distributing public service messages in neighborhoods, and providing outreach at festivals and events.
- Inspecting grease traps for proper installation, cleaning, and maintenance; teaching people about the right way to dispose of grease and enforcing ordinances.
- Maintains various logs and documents inspections. Requires competence in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and database systems; must be skilled in organizing and maintaining accurate records. Reads technical instructions, procedure manuals, and interprets data to solve practical problems. Composes clear, accurate and courteous correspondence.
- Performs other departmental duties as needed or assigned.
The successful candidate must be able to obtain a Special Conservator of the Peace endorsement within 6 months of hire. Must be able to comprehend and apply city ordinances fairly and consistently; and be a skilled investigator, detecting violations and recommending appropriate corrective action in a calm effective manner.
Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; exercise sound judgement and be able to testify in court.

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in environmental/health studies, engineering, or a closely related field. Associates degree in environmental/health studies, engineering, or a closely related field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standards, this job class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license with a driving record that complies with the City’s Driving Standards. Ability to obtain, within 6 months of hire, the Conservator of the Peace designation, appointment, certification, or other credential required by the City for performance of assigned enforcement activities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

- Ability to use basic algebra involving variables and formulas, basic geometry involving area, volume, ratios, flow rates, and percentages.
