Job Description
Position Summary
Shift Schedule: 4:00 PM to 4:15 PM
The Technical Trainer is responsible for delivering technical, operational, safety, quality, and job-specific training to employees across multiple departments and shifts. This position plays a key role in ensuring employees are properly trained to perform their jobs safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
Reporting to the Technical Training Supervisor, the Technical Trainer partners closely with Operations, Engineering, EHS, Quality, HR, and department leadership to facilitate classroom and hands-on training, evaluate employee competency, reinforce standard work practices, and support the successful onboarding and development of employees.
Responsibilities
• Deliver instructor-led classroom and hands-on technical training for new hires, current employees, and cross-training initiatives.
• Conduct onboarding, equipment, process, GMP, food safety, quality, and safety training in accordance with company standards.
• Reinforce standardized work practices, safe operating procedures, and department-specific training requirements.
• Facilitate refresher training and retraining as needed based on operational changes, compliance requirements, or performance needs.
• Evaluate employee understanding and competency through observations, practical demonstrations, and knowledge assessments.
• Provide coaching and constructive feedback to employees during the training process to support skill development and successful qualification.
• Partner with supervisors and department leaders to identify employees requiring additional training or development.
• Support employee cross-training initiatives to improve operational flexibility and workforce capability.
• Maintain accurate training records and ensure all completed training is documented within the Learning Management System (LMS).
• Verify employees have completed required training before performing assigned job functions independently.
• Ensure all training activities comply with OSHA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety standards, SOPs, and company policies.
• Report training completion, competency results, and employee progress to the Technical Training Supervisor.
• Observe work processes on the production floor and provide recommendations for improving training effectiveness.
• Communicate training needs, knowledge gaps, and process improvement opportunities to the Technical Training Supervisor.
• Assist with validating and updating existing training materials to ensure they accurately reflect current processes and procedures.
• Support special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
• Education
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's degree or technical certification in Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Education, Engineering, Food Science, or a related field is a plus.
• 2–5 years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse, production, quality, engineering, maintenance, or technical operations.
• Previous experience delivering employee training, coaching, or mentoring is preferred.
• Experience in food manufacturing or consumer packaged goods (CPG) is preferred.
• Experience using a Learning Management System (Alchemy preferred) is a plus.
Skills & Requirements
• Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively train employees at all levels.
• Ability to explain technical concepts and operational procedures in a clear, engaging, and easy-to-understand manner.
• Comfortable facilitating both classroom and hands-on training sessions.
• Strong coaching, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to evaluate employee competency and provide constructive feedback.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple training priorities.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to build positive working relationships across Operations, Engineering, EHS, HR, Quality, and other departments.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Working Conditions
• Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments.
• Regular travel between Cibo Vita's Totowa facilities is required.
• Frequent time spent on the production floor conducting hands-on training, observing work processes, and evaluating employee performance.
• Must follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety, sanitation, and company safety policies at all times.
• Exposure to manufacturing environments including loud noise, moving machinery, elevated platforms, temperature variations, and other industrial conditions while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to stand, walk, demonstrate work processes, and conduct training for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Willingness to maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification and respond as a trained first responder when necessary.
