Position Summary:
The Technician Lead supports up to 40 field technicians across the glass, door, traditional locksmith, and safe and vault trades. This is a newly created lead role, not a management role. It adds hands-on oversight of van inventory and takes technician-support work, such as Home Depot payment requests, off the fleet manager. The team is currently 33 technicians and 36 vans and is expected to keep growing, and the role is expected to grow with it. The position is primarily office-based, with minimal field time and ride-alongs.
Responsibilities:
Support field technicians as needed, including day-to-day requests such as finding parts or tools and time-off requests.
- Vehicle inventory: Take responsibility for the inventory of technician vehicles, including likely quarterly checks per truck. This builds on the current process, where technicians self-report inventory in June and December and the reports are reviewed.
- Technician ride-alongs: Ride along with technicians to build goodwill, get to know them, and learn their day-to-day pain points.
- Home Depot orders: Handle Home Depot phone orders and payment requests when technicians pick up parts.
- Parking tickets: Pay technician parking tickets.
- Hard-to-find parts and tools: Purchase or source parts and tools that technicians cannot easily find.
- Fleet support: Assist the fleet manager with technician-related issues with vans.
- Operations support: Assist Operations with technician issues.
Preferred experience: Prior work as a senior technician, shop steward, or fleet manager, ideally including experience managing technicians, roughly six to twelve at a time.
Skills and attributes:
- Communication: Clear verbal and written communication, active listening, and comfort speaking to groups.
- People skills: Empathy, conflict resolution, relationship building, and cross-cultural awareness.
- Problem solving: Critical and analytical thinking, creativity, and adaptability.
- Work habits: Time management, organization, accountability, resilience, and a strong work ethic, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Leadership: Mentoring, sound decision-making, persuasion, and strategic thinking.
- Tools: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn internal systems and vendor management platforms.
