The Private Cloud Engineer III is a senior-level infrastructure role focused on managing, optimizing, and evolving complex cloud, virtualization, and storage environments.
This position requires deep technical expertise, strong ownership of enterprise systems, and the ability to lead operational improvements.
The role combines hands-on engineering, advanced troubleshooting, automation, and technical mentorship to ensure reliable and secure infrastructure services.
You will collaborate with engineering teams, architects, operations groups, and customers to deliver scalable solutions and resolve complex challenges.

The Private Cloud Engineer III will oversee the administration, optimization, and continuous improvement of private cloud infrastructure while serving as a technical leader for virtualization and storage platforms. This role requires ownership of complex systems, proactive problem-solving, and collaboration across technical and customer-facing teams.
- Support, manage, monitor, and optimize cloud, virtualization, and storage infrastructure to maintain high performance, availability, scalability, and security.
- Act as a senior technical authority for VMware, storage, and cloud platforms, providing advanced troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root cause analysis.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex infrastructure issues, leading incident response, post-mortem reviews, and resolution efforts.
- Lead, mentor, and support engineers by promoting technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and effective operational practices.
- Manage complex infrastructure projects in collaboration with Architecture, Engineering, Product, and Operations teams.
- Design, implement, and maintain best practices, technical standards, procedures, and operational documentation.
- Partner with customers and internal stakeholders to identify recurring issues, recommend solutions, and improve service quality.
- Monitor alerts, service requests, and incidents while maintaining clear communication throughout resolution processes.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support when required.
- Drive automation initiatives using scripting and infrastructure-as-code approaches to improve operational efficiency.
- Evaluate emerging virtualization, cloud, and storage technologies and recommend solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Maintain technical documentation, including runbooks, knowledge articles, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.
- Support strategic initiatives while delivering high-quality internal and external customer service.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing enterprise infrastructure environments, strong virtualization expertise, and proven leadership capabilities in complex technical operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- 10+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting VMware-based infrastructure environments.
- 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure administration combined with technical leadership or management responsibilities.
- Advanced expertise with VMware technologies, including vSphere, vSAN, High Availability (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), and disaster recovery solutions.
- Strong experience with enterprise storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, Pure Storage, and high-performance storage platforms.
- Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity solutions, including VMware Site Recovery and Zerto.
- 3+ years of experience developing automation solutions using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python, Terraform, or similar technologies.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills across virtualization, storage, cloud platforms, performance analysis, capacity planning, and infrastructure resiliency.
- Strong understanding of security best practices, backup and recovery strategies, high availability, and disaster recovery concepts.
- Intermediate knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including VLANs, switching, routing fundamentals, link aggregation, and network troubleshooting.
- Experience analyzing infrastructure metrics and performance data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
- Strong customer relationship management skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent documentation, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to mentor technical teams, manage priorities, and deliver multiple projects successfully.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard Windows-based applications.
- VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) certification or equivalent industry certification preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with VMware VCF9.
- Experience with Nutanix AHV.
- Experience with Azure, AWS, or Azure Local environments.
- Experience with Zerto disaster recovery solutions.
- Strong analytical capabilities for evaluating infrastructure performance and supporting high-priority escalations.
- Strong client-facing skills with the ability to discuss technology improvements and operational strategies.
- Competitive salary range of $95,778.92 – $143,668.38, based on experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors.
