Sales and Use Tax Practitioners

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sales and Use Tax Practitioners based in United States.

This remote contract opportunity is designed for experienced tax professionals who want to apply their sales and use tax expertise in a flexible, client-focused environment.
You will support small and midsize businesses by acting as a trusted extension of their finance teams and helping them navigate complex tax compliance needs.
The role provides the opportunity to manage meaningful client relationships while leveraging established processes, resources, and support systems.
You will handle a variety of tax activities, from filing and reporting to reconciliations and jurisdictional matters.
This position is ideal for professionals seeking flexibility, autonomy, and the ability to build a successful practice without business development responsibilities.
By delivering accurate and timely tax solutions, you will help clients improve compliance and confidently manage their sales and use tax obligations.

Accountabilities:

As a Sales and Use Tax Practitioner, you will provide expert tax support to clients while ensuring accurate compliance management and high-quality service delivery. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Translating and importing client sales and use tax data into required systems and workflows.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and delivering standard and customized tax reports.
  • Managing eligible tax credits and supporting clients with applicable opportunities.
  • Preparing and managing monthly cash requests and reconciling payments made on behalf of clients.
  • Assisting clients with general ledger reconciliations and ensuring financial accuracy.
  • Maintaining accurate client tax calendars and ensuring all filing deadlines are met.
  • Preparing and submitting timely sales and use tax returns according to client requirements.
  • Communicating proactively with clients to resolve questions, provide guidance, and address tax-related requests.
  • Managing jurisdictional issues, including reviewing and responding to tax notices on behalf of clients.
  • Maintaining a strong client-first approach while delivering reliable outsourced sales and use tax services.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced tax professional with strong knowledge of sales and use tax compliance and a commitment to providing exceptional client support. Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA, CMI certification, or at least 5 years of sales and use tax compliance experience.
  • Proven experience preparing and filing sales tax returns, preferably for small to midsize businesses.
  • Strong understanding of sales and use tax regulations, reporting processes, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to manage client relationships with professionalism, responsiveness, and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment with flexible, part-time availability.
  • Excellent communication skills and a client-focused mindset.
  • Must currently reside in the United States and be authorized to work in the country.
