Senior Manager, Software Engineering

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Manager, Software Engineering based in the United States.

This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced engineering manager to guide high-performing software teams and deliver scalable technology solutions that support critical business products and services. In this role, you will oversee software development initiatives, drive engineering excellence, and partner with product and business stakeholders to deliver impactful capabilities. You will combine technical expertise, people leadership, and strategic thinking to improve platforms, modernize systems, and strengthen delivery practices. Working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, you will help shape engineering culture while enabling teams to build reliable, secure, and innovative solutions.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Manager, Software Engineering is responsible for leading software engineering teams, managing technology delivery, and ensuring the successful development, enhancement, and support of products and services. This role requires strong technical leadership, operational oversight, and the ability to align engineering priorities with business objectives.

  • Lead and manage a team of software engineers responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting products across multiple technologies and solution areas.
  • Plan, guide, and control software development projects of varying size and complexity, ensuring delivery meets business goals and technical standards.
  • Oversee the design, development, testing, and implementation of software solutions aligned with established requirements.
  • Partner with Product Management teams to ensure new features and enhancements effectively address customer and business needs.
  • Evaluate project proposals, technical requirements, and business opportunities to determine development effort and resource needs.
  • Prioritize engineering initiatives and allocate resources effectively to maximize business value and delivery outcomes.
  • Manage production support activities, troubleshoot technical issues, and coordinate timely resolution of customer and system-impacting problems.
  • Drive improvements in engineering processes, technology platforms, system reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Support software engineers’ professional growth through coaching, development planning, feedback, and career guidance.
  • Promote modern engineering practices, including automation, cloud-based delivery, CI/CD, DevOps, observability, and reliable production operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, UX, Operations, and business stakeholders to deliver successful solutions.
  • Communicate project status, technical risks, delivery progress, and recommendations to leadership teams.
Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineering leader with a strong background in technology delivery, team management, and modern software development practices. You should be comfortable leading distributed teams, managing complex priorities, and driving transformation in a dynamic environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and workload planning.
  • Proven experience delivering software solutions across multiple technologies and platforms.
  • Strong software development background with experience in Java, web services, system integrations, and relational database technologies.
  • Experience with full-stack development environments such as .NET, C#, or Java preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading technology modernization, platform improvements, or engineering process transformations.
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, including API-first design, cloud technologies, CI/CD, DevOps, and production reliability.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software development practices, including AI-supported coding, testing, documentation, debugging, and productivity improvement.
  • Ability to evaluate technical and business priorities, make resource decisions, and align engineering investments with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in healthcare technology, regulated environments, sensitive data platforms, HIPAA/PCI environments, or healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 or FHIR is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in remote environments, including maintaining strong engagement and communication during virtual meetings.
