Learning & Development Attorney
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Salary: $120,000–$160,000 DOE
Position Summary
The Learning & Development Attorney is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering training programs that support the professional growth and success of attorneys, paralegals, and legal support staff across the firm. This role combines personal injury litigation expertise with instructional design and attorney development experience to create high-impact learning initiatives that strengthen legal skills, case outcomes, client service, and firm performance.
The Learning & Development Attorney will report to the Chief Learning Officer, Mentorship & Professional Development, and partner closely with firm leadership, practice group leaders, trial attorneys, subject matter experts, to ensure training programs are practical, engaging, legally accurate, and aligned with the firm's strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement attorney and staff learning and development programs.Design onboarding, CLE, professional development, and leadership training initiatives.Create curriculum focused on personal injury litigation, case management, client advocacy, negotiations, depositions, and trial preparation.Develop innovative learning experiences, including workshops, simulations, mock trials, coaching, and e-learning.Ensure training content reflects current Texas personal injury law, litigation best practices, and emerging legal technologies.Review and maintain training materials, resource libraries, and best-practice guides.Facilitate virtual, in-person, and hybrid training programs.Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.Partner with firm leadership, attorneys, and HR to identify development needs and support onboarding, mentoring, and retention initiatives.Monitor emerging trends in personal injury law, litigation strategy, legal technology, and AI tools and integrate relevant topics into training programs.Manage program logistics, scheduling, communications, and participant engagement.Coordinate CLE-accredited training programs and professional development initiatives.Measure program effectiveness through evaluations, assessments, performance metrics, and participant feedback.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) and active Texas law license.5+ years of experience in personal injury litigation, legal training, attorney development, or professional development.Strong knowledge of civil litigation and trial preparation.Strong project management, organizational, and stakeholder management abilities.Experience designing and delivering training programs for legal professionals.Excellent communication, facilitation, and project management skills.Experience with LMS platforms, legal research tools, and legal technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in high volume, or a plaintiff-side personal injury firm.Trial experience.Certification in learning and development, instructional design or coaching.Supervisory or team leadership experience.Expertise in instructional design, adult learning, or curriculum development.Learning and development or coaching certification.
