Job Description

The Paint Masker is responsible for preparing metal parts for painting and coating operations through proper masking, handling, and inspection techniques. This role supports production quality and efficiency by ensuring components are protected, processed according to specifications, and maintained in compliance with safety and quality standards.
Scope & ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities- Review work orders prior to starting jobs to verify all prior operations have been completed and signed off
- Prepare and submit first-piece samples to the supervisor for approval prior to production release
- Prepare and submit last-piece samples for final verification and approval
- Apply masking materials, including specialty tapes and protective coverings, to metal parts prior to painting or coating processes
- Inspect parts for defects, contamination, or damage before and after masking activities
- Handle products carefully to prevent fingerprints, scratches, or surface contamination
- Record and communicate any non-conformances or quality concerns to supervisors promptly
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company standards
- Follow all safety procedures, work instructions, and departmental guidelines
- Support production flow by assisting in various areas of the Paint Department as needed
- Participate in cross-training activities within other departments when required
- Maintain accurate timekeeping and job tracking records within the company computer system
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, teamwork, and a strong work ethic in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment required
- Experience in paint masking, paint preparation, or industrial coating operations preferred
- Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions
- Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail
- Strong visual inspection capability and close visual acuity
- Basic computer skills for timekeeping and production tracking
- Understanding of manufacturing safety practices and PPE requirements preferred
- Self-motivated with the ability to maintain productivity in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
- Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and management
- Dependable, punctual, and safety-conscious
- Willingness to learn and support cross-functional operations
- Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing and paint department environment
- Exposure to paint materials, industrial equipment, noise, and varying temperatures
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, safety glasses, and other protective equipment as applicable
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, handle parts, and use hands and fingers for detailed masking work
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds occasionally
- Close vision and strong visual acuity required for detailed inspection and masking activities
- Ability to perform repetitive hand movements and precision tasks for extended periods
