About This Position

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary National Information Technology Officer (NITO) to lead the strategic direction of all technology and information systems at DAV. This role is responsible for driving digital transformation, overseeing IT operations, and ensuring data integrity and cybersecurity across the organization. As a senior leader, you will serve as the principal technology advisor to our Executive Director and leadership team, guiding the adoption of innovative tools including AI and automation that will strengthen DAV’s mission delivery for years to come.


Key Responsibilities

  • Set the vision: Lead the creation and execution of a forward-thinking IT strategy that aligns with DAV’s mission and long-term organizational objectives.
  • Drive digital transformation: Champion modernization initiatives including cloud solutions, automation, data analytics, and AI to improve efficiency, accessibility, and member services.
  • Oversee IT operations: Ensure excellence in systems administration, enterprise applications, infrastructure, and cybersecurity across the organization.
  • Safeguard data & security: Build and enforce governance frameworks for data integrity, cybersecurity, risk management, and compliance with federal, state, and nonprofit regulations.
  • Lead organizational innovation: Identify, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies that deliver measurable impact for veterans and staff.
  • Partner with leadership: Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director and senior leadership team, translating complex technology initiatives into actionable strategies.
  • Optimize resources: Oversee technology budgeting, procurement, and vendor relationships to maximize ROI and align investments with strategic priorities.
  • Develop high-performing teams: Inspire, mentor, and lead a diverse IT department of 30+ professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Measure & improve performance: Establish KPIs and regularly assess IT systems, operations, and user experience to ensure continual improvement.
  • Champion collaboration: Work cross-functionally with departments nationwide to ensure IT solutions meet internal needs while enhancing services for veterans and their families.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience with proven success in strategic planning and execution.
  • Expertise in IT governance, risk management, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience leading enterprise-level digital transformation initiatives, including AI integration.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience within nonprofit, government, or military-affiliated organizations is a plus.
