POSITION SUMMARY
The Special Testing Technician is responsible for providing the highest quality optometric patient care possible. The Special Testing Technician performs patient histories, completes ophthalmic testing and consistently provides superior customer service for the patients. The Special Testing Technician ensures the proper utilization of time and movement of the patient throughout the patient visit and completes all diagnostic testing as requested by the clinical supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED requiredBachelor's degree or associate Degree in a related field preferredTwo years of ophthalmology experience preferred

- Proficient computer skillsDetail orientedObtain a complete hands-on working knowledge of applicable computer softwareAbility to problem solveExcellent communication skills, proper grammar and writing capabilityTeam PlayerObtain a complete knowledge of all forms that are used in the practiceGain an understanding of the anatomy & physiology of the eyeSelf-directed, highly motivated, able to multi-task and work under pressure in a fast-paced environmentExceptional interpersonal skillsPossess a caring, patient and friendly attitudeAbility to appropriately prioritize patient testingObtain a complete working knowledge of all ophthalmic terminology, spelling and pronunciationAbility to understand CPT and ICD-9/10 Codes for ophthalmic billing
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform testing as requested by the ordering doctor-- Visual Fields, OCTs, Pachymetry, Fundus Photos, External Photos, etc.Obtain eyeglass prescriptions via lensometerCommunicate physician instructions to patients accurately and effectively and documents accordinglyAssist the physician with pharmacy calls, patient calls, etc.Ensure the scheduling template is being followed correctlyEnsure all special testing rooms are clean and well-stocked at the end of each dayEnsure all equipment is turned off and covered properly at the end of dayComplete tech station duties as assigned on a daily basisProcess e-scripts as requestedProfessional and Personal Development/Goals and ObjectivesExhibit professional demeanor with a positive attitude at all times when representing the practiceMaintain certification, where applicable, while continuing to improve skills. Must attend in-services and webinar training as directed by the Clinical SupervisorSet goals and objectives for professional growth. Review and revise goals on an ongoing basisProvide input on how to improve customer service, decrease costs and increase revenues for the practice
