SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONSThe Saw Filer works closely with the saw filing team to perform and coordinate a variety of tasks that support the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of saw shop operations and overall mill production. This role is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, sharpening, and troubleshooting saws and knives used throughout the mill to ensure optimal performance and production reliability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESRecognize and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues immediately

Inspect, sharpen, maintain, and assist in replacing saws and knives used in mill operations

Safely file and maintain band saws, circle saws, chipper knives, and saw guides

Perform machine alignment, saw maintenance, and preventative maintenance procedures

Troubleshoot issues involving knives, circle saws, band saws, and guide systems

Operate precision measuring equipment and grinding equipment to maintain proper tolerances

Ensure all saws and knives meet operational and safety standards before use

Maintain saw filing equipment and ensure tools are properly calibrated and functioning

Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance personnel, and production teams

Follow all safety procedures, environmental guidelines, and company policies at all times

Support production efficiency by maintaining properly functioning cutting equipment

ADDITIONAL DUTIESThe above statements represent the majority of duties associated with this position. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support operational requirements. Flexibility and teamwork are essential.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPSThe Saw Filer reports to the Saw Shop Supervisor and works closely with operations, maintenance, and production personnel to support mill efficiency and safety.

QUALIFICATIONSPrevious saw filing or sawmill experience preferred

Experience with band saws, circle saws, chipper knives, and saw guides preferred

Ability to operate precision measuring tools and grinding equipment

Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment

Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety

Ability to communicate effectively and work well within a team environment

Inspect equipment and work areas prior to operation

Follow proper lifting techniques and safe work practices
