Position Purpose:

To design and implement individualized plans addressing gaps in phonemic awareness, phonological skill, and reading fluency for students in the Adventure Center afterschool program

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

• Works under the Director’s guidance and leadership and with the Adventure Center team in all areas.
• Works under the Director of Training and Staff Development concerning instructional methods, protocols, and record keeping for intensive reading support.
• Assumes responsibility for the implementation of effective ministry in and out of the classroom, especially where it concerns reading skills.
• Delivers a structured pedagogy for reading instruction for struggling readers.
• Fully utilizes provided resources.
• Develops and maintains effective relationships with students, parents, greater Mission 1:27 team, Walton Communities team members and residents.
• As an ambassador of Mission 1:27 and Walton Communities, models Christ-like behavior in all circumstances with students, parents, colleagues, Walton team members and residents and members of the community at large.
• Effectively manages classroom activities.
• Administers assessments to identify gaps in reading skills and use results to analyze progress.
• Develops and maintains a weekly tutoring schedule.
• Develops an individualized instructional plan for each student.
• Keeps detailed records of daily lesson planning and individual running records.
• Includes meaningful activities in every lesson and uses creative methods of encouragement.
• Ensures that Adventure Center facilities are secure, clean and well-maintained
• Adheres to uniform requirements
• Ensures compliance with Mission 1:27’s policies, including the Child Safety and Protection Policy and all child protection laws and regulations
• Participates in regular times of prayer with Center staff and attends staff meetings
• Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned

• Agreement with and adherence to Mission 1:27’s Statement of Faith and Qualifications for Leadership.
• Some completed college coursework
• Spiritually mature
• Must be a Christian and possess average to above average theological knowledge
• Active involvement in a local church
• Competent teacher
• Experience in teaching reading skills (phonemic awareness, phonics, reading comprehension, etc…)
• Patient, flexible, creative and teachable
• Team player
• Passion for reaching people through outreach, Biblical teaching, character instruction and academic instruction
