About This Position
The Traffic Control Lead is responsible for overseeing and coordinating traffic control operations on roadway and construction projects to ensure the safety of the public, employees, and equipment. This role involves supervising flaggers and traffic control crews, setting up and maintaining traffic control devices, and ensuring compliance with all applicable safety standards and regulations. The Traffic Control Lead serves as the primary on-site contact for traffic control operations and works closely with project management to ensure smooth and efficient traffic flow.
Key Duties & Responsibilities- Supervise and direct traffic control personnel, including flaggers and setup crews.
- Plan, set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices such as signs, cones, barricades, and message boards in accordance with project plans and safety regulations.
- Ensure compliance with MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) standards, DOT regulations, and company safety policies.
- Coordinate with foremen, superintendents, and project managers regarding traffic control needs.
- Monitor traffic patterns and adjust setups as needed to maintain safety and efficiency.
- Train new traffic control personnel in safety protocols, equipment use, and job procedures.
- Conduct daily inspections of traffic control setups to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of daily traffic control activities, crew assignments, and incidents.
- Respond to emergencies or changes in traffic conditions promptly and effectively.
Communicate clearly and professionally with the public, law enforcement, and other contractors on-site.
Qualifications & Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of traffic control experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Knowledge of MUTCD standards, DOT regulations, and safe traffic control practices.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) or equivalent certification preferred.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing conditions.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
- Frequent exposure to loud noise, moving vehicles, and heavy equipment.
Ability to work long or irregular hours, including nights and weekends, as project schedules require.
