About This Position
Production Assistant / Photographer
WDRB is looking for a motivated, hands-on team player to join our team in a unique, dual-role position that combines studio production and field photography.
This is a rare opportunity to gain experience both behind the scenes in live television and out in the field covering news. You’ll split your time between running studio and control room operations during newscasts and working as a photographer capturing stories in the community.
If you’re interested in building a career in broadcast—whether in production, directing, or photojournalism—this role provides a strong foundation across multiple disciplines.
What You Will DoStudio & Control Room (Production):
- Operate studio cameras (pedestal, shoulder, and PTZ) during live newscasts
- Floor direct and support the execution of daily broadcasts
- Monitor and adjust audio levels during newscasts
- Assist with graphics and other production elements
- Learn technical directing and directing using Ross OverDrive automation
- Work closely with producers to prepare and execute newscasts
Field Work (Photography):
- Shoot video for news stories, including VO/SOTs and other content
- Assist reporters and newsroom staff in gathering visual content
- Learn and apply strong visual storytelling techniques
- Edit video using non-linear editing software
- Interest in broadcast production, photography, or news
- A willingness to learn and grow in multiple areas of the newsroom
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
- Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays
- A team-first mindset and strong work ethic
- High school diploma required; college coursework or degree in a related field preferred
- Some experience with video shooting and editing preferred
- Familiarity with digital video/audio tools a plus
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and file-based workflows
- Hands-on experience in both studio production and field photography
