About This Position
Position Summary
The Survey Technician assists in the collection of accurate survey data for construction, engineering, and land development projects. This role works under the direction of the Survey Crew Chief to operate survey instruments, record field measurements, and ensure data is collected in accordance with project specifications and safety requirements. The Survey Technician helps maintain equipment, supports field operations, and contributes to the preparation of survey documentation.
Key Duties & Responsibilities- Assist in performing boundary, topographic, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
- Operate and maintain survey equipment including total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors.
- Set up, level, and break down survey instruments at job sites.
- Record accurate measurements, notes, and sketches during field operations.
- Follow instructions from the Survey Crew Chief to collect data according to project requirements.
- Load, download, and organize field data for processing in CAD or GIS software.
- Maintain survey equipment, tools, and vehicles in clean and working condition.
- Assist in identifying and marking survey control points and reference markers.
- Comply with company safety policies and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Perform general labor duties in support of the survey crew as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or coursework in surveying preferred.
- 0–2 years of survey field experience; willing to train the right candidate.
- Basic knowledge of survey principles, measurements, and equipment use preferred.
- Ability to read and follow instructions, plans, and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and traverse uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of survey equipment.
Work may require early mornings, evenings, or weekends, depending on project demands.
