Overview
Do you love to work on cars, motorcycles, or machines? Did you go to school for automotive technology, diesel technology, industrial maintenance, or similar? Do you want to learn more about being a mechanic? Do you have no experience as a mechanic but like to take things apart and put them back together? This role is for you!
Job Responsibilities:
Submarine mechanics, also known as Outside Machinists, are responsible for all shipboard mechanical work that takes place in Electric Boat's Groton shipyard. Tasks include on-hull machining, installation of components like pumps, valves, weapons systems, communications systems, shafting and propulsion systems, support testing of mechanical components, and much more. Use skills like blueprint reading, precision measuring, fastening threaded fasteners, component layout, etc. all while complying to safety and quality standards. This work is primarily shipboard, internal and external to submarine hulls; off-site and radiological work also exists.

Qualifications
Required:
- Must have a High School Diploma, GED, 2+ years of relevant technical experience or be a current High School Senior
- 0-5 years of relevant experience
- Must be available for all shifts
- Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program, if applicable (will be determined after interview)
- Must be a US Citizen
Preferred:
- Graduates from technical programs for mechanical trades
