About This Position
Position Title: Security Officer
Reports To: Shift Management
Department: Security - 055510
Shift: Day, Swing, Grave
Role: The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of guests, employees, and property. This role requires proactive patrolling, incident response, and enforcement of company policies and safety procedures. The position plays a vital role in life safety, emergency response, loss prevention, and customer service within the hotel and casino environment. Adheres to all Company, Safety and Department policies and procedures. Fosters teamwork and provides excellent guest service, anticipates guest needs to exceed guest expectations. Builds brand loyalty by living the JW Marriott Core Values.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of prior experience in security, law enforcement, or military service (preferred).
- Skills:
- Must be fluent in English and capable of communicating clearly with guests and team members.
- Completion of on-site training required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions in written, verbal, or diagram form.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to complete electronic reports accurately.
- Required:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
Required Work Cards needed:
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- Valid Nevada Gaming License
- Valid Nevada Driver’s License
- Current Alcohol Awareness Card (TAM Card)
Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Respond promptly and effectively to all emergency situations including fire, medical, criminal activity, environmental hazards, and other life safety issues.
- Conduct continuous patrols throughout the property to monitor and report on safety hazards, policy violations, suspicious activity, and facility deficiencies.
- Ensure personal safety and the safety of others while responding to incidents.
- Maintain regular communication with the Manager on Duty (MOD) and other designated supervisors throughout the shift.
- Comply with directives from the Front Office Manager or Guest Services Manager unless clarification is required from Security leadership.
- Accurately document all incidents, investigations, and event responses using designated software and provide supporting photos and witness statements when applicable.
- Process and secure Lost and Found items in accordance with company policy.
- Assist in the development and execution of emergency preparedness procedures.
- Maintain a cooperative working relationship with local law enforcement agencies.
- Address and resolve guest concerns in a courteous and professional manner.
- Enforce property rules, issue trespass notices with required approvals, and ensure compliance with all relevant gaming laws.
- Monitor and protect company assets, investigate losses, and escalate findings as appropriate.
- Provide timely assistance to injured employees or guests and coordinate emergency medical response.
- Collaborate effectively with all departments and contribute to team goals.
- Promote guest satisfaction through attentive service and safety awareness.
- Uphold company values, maintain professionalism, and serve as a role model to fellow associates.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Security Sergeant or other department leadership.

Essential Job Functions:

Work is performed in a (type of location, i.e., office, kitchen, restaurant, casino, etc.) environment and in other locations throughout the property. Must be tolerant to varying conditions of noise level, temperature, illumination and air quality. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When on the casino floor, the noise level increases too loud. Additionally, smoking is permitted in casino areas consistent with Nevada state regulations, which are followed by the employer.
Mobility and Movement:
- Continuous walking and standing throughout the shift, potentially up to 8 miles per shift.
- Must be physically able to kneel, crouch, bend, stoop, and rise without assistance.
- Capable of ascending and descending multiple flights of stairs rapidly.
- Must be physically to jog, run, or move rapidly in response to incidents.
- Must be able to bend and reach, including above shoulders.
- Must be able move freely and quickly in tight spaces and through crowds.
Strength and Endurance:
- Lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Push, pull, transport, and maneuver objects or individuals weighing up to 200 pounds.
- Perform uninterrupted CPR, including chest compressions, until relieved.
- Maintain physical stamina and endurance throughout the shift.
- Must be able to defend themself during physical altercations.
- Must be able to physically restrain individuals when necessary to protect themselves and others.
Manual Dexterity and Coordination:
- Sufficient hand-eye coordination to operate radios, handcuffing tools, AEDs, and other emergency equipment.
- Operate standard office and security equipment.
- Accurately complete written reports and enter data.
- Distinguish between letters, numbers, and symbols.
Visual and Auditory Requirements:
- Vision: Normal or corrected-to-normal vision (20/20), including peripheral and depth perception.
- Hearing: Ability to hear and understand communications in a noisy environment.
Interpersonal and Communication Requirements:
- Verbally communicate clearly and professionally.
- Maintain emotional resilience and professionalism.
- Read, comprehend, and apply policies, procedures, and safety documentation.
