About This Position
The YouthBuild program is designed to provide at-risk youth aged 17 to 24 with the opportunity to earn their high school diploma or GED, receive job training, and gain valuable work experience – all at no cost. This program seeks to improve workforce development opportunities for young people. YouthBuild Phoenix helps participants build leadership skills, engage in community service, and develop career pathways that lead to long-term success in the labor market. The program focuses on construction and other hands-on skills training, as participants work on building affordable housing in their communities.
HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN THIS ROLE?
YOU will:
- Teach YouthBuild participants ages 16 - 24 basic skills (reading, writing, and math) and GED/HiSET preparation using a variety of instruction methods and resources under WIOA YouthBuild state recognized HSE Instruction.
- Proactively assist participants in occupational and/or post-secondary career opportunities, and placement.
- Provide supportive guidance and encourage the development of academic, life management, and personal growth skills.
- Support post-secondary education through FAFSA/financial aid assistance.
WHO YOU ARE:
Education/Background:
- Bachelor’s degree with ability to teach reading, writing, and middle school-High School level math.
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience.
- Two years of experience teaching GED or HiSET preparation to high school students, young adults, or adults is preferred.
- Must have valid driver’s license in good standing and proof of insurance.
- Fingerprint Clearance
- The ability to teach individuals with a wide variety of skill levels and learning styles.
- Familiarity with TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) and GED or HiSET standardized assessments preferred.
- Excellent public speaking, listening, writing, and computer skills to include Microsoft Office, Internet, and email.
- Proficiency in computer operation for computer-based instruction and a positive attitude about the use of technology.
- Passion for working with young people of diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds who are working to reorient their lives, develop leadership skills, and make a difference in their community.
- Ability to team teach and work as part of team.
- The ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
