Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Patient Care Tech (PCT) works in conjunction with multiple departments as assigned. The PCT performs various direct patient care activities under supervision. The PCT assists patients in a variety of activities and may also participate in other organizational activities as needed. Ensures safety in all activities and follows all relevant safety guidelines. Documents as appropriate. Follows all regulations and compliance mandates. Provides compassionate care before and after treatment and during long inpatient stays. PCT may also be required to transport patients. These professionals replace older forms of patient supervision like restraints and seclusion rooms. PCT works in conjunction with the various patient care Managers, Directors, and Clinical Care Supervisor, House Supervisors, RNs, and CNAs to ensure safety and companionship to help patients through challenging medical issues. The PCT will communicate patient safety needs by accurately documenting patient behaviors. PCT will be cross trained to work in Laundry, Environmental Services, and other administrative tasks throughout the Hospital. The PCTs work is reflective of CCH mission, vision and values.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for following the plan of care, assisting with interventions to meet the goals of the plan.
- Assists with patient needs and department needs throughout the organization, if needed, demonstrating fiscal responsibility, accountability, time management and prioritization skills.
- Provide service excellence to all customers and positive interpersonal relations with all team members.
- Supervise patients care without distractions.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Alerting nurses and clinical staff when patients need help or interventions.
- Assist patients with basic requests.
- Transport patients to and from inpatient beds and other areas like therapy, surgery or radiology or to other facilities.
- Transport patients to other facilities as a driver or a rider as needed.
- Refrain from performing any unauthorized actions.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Active listening and communication of needs and concerns.
- Ability to observe situations.
- Ability to accurately document patient behaviors.
- Complete timely documentation in appropriate record.
- Ability to handle emotionally distressing situations.
- Professional appearance and hygiene.
- Ability to act calmly under pressure.
- Ability to be on call, to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Provide coverage to other CCH service lines as needed i.e..
- MedSurg Assist nurses with patient care, including vital signs, hygiene, feeding, mobility, and comfort.
- ICU Support ICU nurses with patient care, monitoring, and safety.
- Maternal Child Assist with care for mothers and newborns, including feeding, monitoring, and providing support to families.
- Inpatient BHS Support patient safety, observe and document behavior, and assist with therapeutic activities.
- Radiology Transport patients safely to and from diagnostic areas, assisting with mobility and communication with staff.
- Laundry and EVS Perform assigned duties in linen management and environmental services as needed.
- Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, Experience:
- Education: Must complete CCH PCT education.
- Licensure: none required.
- Experience: One year healthcare experience preferred.
- Certifications required: See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and Certifications/Education Requirements Policy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- The ability to maintain continuing education requirements and all certifications and licenses as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, CPI, CPR).
- Ability to develop positive interaction with patients, patient families, physicians, and staff in order to effectively care for the patients.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
- Analytical and reasoning skills with a high level of mental concentration and memory.
- Ability to speak clearly to communicate and interact positively with patients, patient families, physicians, and staff.
- Computer Knowledge including the ability to enter material into electronic record. Ability to operate fax, computer, and copy machine to perform the duties of the position.
- The ability to demonstrate knowledge of developmental stages and apply developmental theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for the appropriate age of the patient.
- Ability to maintain the appropriate level of knowledge and skills.
- Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in the following age groups:
- Infant (Neonate to Age 1)
- Pediatric (Age 1-11)
- Adolescent (12-18)
- Adult (19-64)
- Geriatric (Age 65 and older)
