Job Summary
This highly responsible and technical work involves the efficient operation of the Rockdale County 911 Communications Center. This position operates a two-way radio and other communications equipment in the receiving and transmitting of public safety calls; dispatches appropriate Public
Safety entity. This is an entry-level operator position.
Essential Functions

Supervises a shift; makes assignments; addresses personnel issues and employee problems as necessary; rewards/disciplines employees as necessary.
Trains, evaluates, and monitors the progress of new employees.
Receives calls by E-911 system, telephone, or radio for the Fire Department, E.M.S., Law Enforcement, and other entities as required.
Determines by Inquiry the exact location of the place or point of emergency and dispatches the
proper personnel.
Keeps necessary records regarding calls and complaints, communications, and/or E-911 operations.
Complies data from records kept in various daily, monthly, or other periodic reports.
Maintains communications records and flies. Provides routine assistance and Information to the general public where possible and appropriate.
Performs quality assurance checks on a regular basis. Maintains equipment in the room.
Available 24/7 to employees (on call on off days as well).
Essential Functions (Continued)
Coordinates with vendors for outside repairs.
Sends appropriate pages to Management staff as needed.
Screens access to the 911 center and monitors Homeland Security initiatives at all times.
Reviews and recommends SOP's for operational efficiency.
Quality Assurance reviews on CAD and Freedom for efficiency of the Operators' skills.
Map reading skills are essential for processing 911 wireless calls.
Additional Duties:
Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper
authority.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing transmission by radio.
Knowledge of the methods of operating and the communication system.
Knowledge of geography and the road system throughout the county.
Knowledge of training and supervision principles, practices, and techniques.
Skill in detecting the scope and magnitude of an emergency.
Ability to give and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to deal with the public under stressful conditions.
Ability to act calmly and accurately in emergency situations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, law enforcement, and the general public.
Working Conditions
Typically performed in an office. Must complete a successful 12-month working test period.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer an Associate's degree in Emergency Management, Public
Administration or related field.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in E-911 communications.
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
