Position Overview

At Forman School, the Fellow position offers valuable job experience in a boarding school setting. This one-year position includes room and board for the school year, professional development opportunities and mentorship in education and special education, as well as consideration for further employment (based on department openings).

Key Responsibilities
- Teach a reduced course load of three classes out of the eight block schedule; one of the three classes will be co-taught with a mentor teacher
- Courses taught could range from Pre-Algebra through Pre-Calculus
- Create lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments with Department Chair support
- Work closely with the Department Chair and/or mentor teacher to hone your skills in classroom management, student motivation, creating appropriate assessments, designing unit and lesson plans, and other areas needed to become an effective classroom teacher
- Implement best practices to support the needs of students with diagnosed learning differences
- Provide consistent, timely, and constructive feedback both in writing and verbally
- Foster an environment in which students learn to think critically and independently
- Communicate effectively with a variety of different constituencies in writing and verbally
- Demonstrate patience and empathy with adolescents and focus on fully developing well-rounded individuals
- Attend department meetings and other meetings as assigned
- Serve as a member of a dorm family
- Coach two seasons of extracurricular activities
- Other duties as assigned
Educational and Experiential Background and Credentials
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field
- Ability to write clearly and effectively in a variety of formats
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate well and effectively with colleagues, parents, and students alike
- An interest in working with high school students and a willingness to continually work on growing as an educator
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Mathematics or a related field
- Experience working with students in a school or camp setting
Other Expectations
This position is a member of a boarding school faculty. Candidates should be interested in contributing outside of the classroom and becoming fully involved in the student life program. Faculty are expected to demonstrate respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of school life.
