GBI has always maintained that our employees are our greatest asset, and we are now seeking to add to our team. We are looking for a Machinist to join our team in Kapolei, HI.

Position Summary

The Machinist supports repair and fabrication of components for vertical turbine pumps using lathes, mills, drill presses, and grinders. Responsibilities include producing precision components, reading blueprints, maintaining shop cleanliness, and ensuring a safe, organized work environment. This role requires hands-on mechanical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in various field environments. Progression from Machinist B to Senior Machinist is based on experience, demonstrated skills, and performance evaluations. Responsibilities also include connecting piping, performing routine maintenance, and troubleshooting pump issues. The position requires physical strength, mechanical aptitude, and work in various outdoor and indoor environments. Prior experience in construction or mechanical work is beneficial but not always required.

Essential Functions

1. Machinist B (Beginner Machinist)
2. Proficiency to operate and perform preventive maintenance on support equipment
3. Adhere to all safety protocols, use personal protective equipment (PPE), perform regular maintenance checks, and report hazards promptly.
4. Supervise and train assigned helpers.
5. Generate and maintain daily work reports and payroll timecards
6. Read and follow plan sets, schematics, and work orders.
7. Operate specialized tools and assist with overhead crane rigging and lifting.
8. Work with crane operators to position and install pumps.
9. Requirements:
10. 1-3 years of Machining or mechanical experience.
11. Ability to read technical diagrams and perform basic troubleshooting.
12. Proficiency with power tools and field equipment.
13. Crane Certification

1. Machinist A (Advanced Machinist)
2. Perform all Machinist B tasks with minimal supervision.
3. Train and mentor Machinists
4. Communicate with Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure task completion.
5. Requirements:
6. 3-5+ years of Machining experience.
7. Strong troubleshooting and leadership skills.
8. Ability to operate rigging, hoisting, and heavy equipment.

1. Senior Machinist (Expert-Level Machinist)
2. Oversee and execute complex Machinings and system upgrades.
3. Diagnose and repair advanced pump.
4. Provide technical expertise and project recommendations.
5. Assist in developing work procedures and training materials.
6. Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and quality control checks.
7. Work with engineers, clients, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.
8. Requirements:
9. Expertly performs duties of Machinist B - A, Mentors and trains less experienced Machinists.
10. 5-10+ years of Machining experience.
11. Strong leadership and project management skills.
12. Certifications in rigging, experience in pump overhauls/refurbish

This position offers a salary range of $50 to $60 per hour.

Required Education, Experience, and Technical Knowledge

1. Candidates must have the legal right to work in the US without employer sponsorship.
2. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
3. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work in physically demanding environments.
4. Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various conditions (outdoors, confined spaces, heights, etc.).
5. Willingness to learn, follow safety guidelines, and work as part of a team.
6. Valid driver’s license required.
7. Basic Computer Skills
8. Machinist will need to perform physical labor, such as heavy lifting, stair climbing, and standing for long periods. They may also be exposed to dangerous materials and situations, and will require the need to wear protective equipment

Education:

1. High School

Machinists can progress from B to A to Senior Machinist through training, experience, and performance.
