Job Description
JOB TITLE: Materiels Technician
DEPARTMENT: Materiels
REPORTS TO: Director of Materiels
JOB SUMMARY
The Materiels Technician is responsible for managing the receipt, storage, distribution, and inventory control of medical and facility supplies. This role processes exchange carts and departmental requisitions, delivers supplies throughout the organization, and ensures billable items are properly tagged for patient charging. The Materiels Technician monitors inventory levels, places stock and special-order requisitions, maintains pricing information, and keeps the storeroom organized and efficient. Additional responsibilities include receiving and stocking freight, preparing shipments, performing biannual inventory counts, processing receipts and issues, entering data into inventory systems, and maintaining a working knowledge of computerized materiels management systems to support daily operations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or equivalent desired
EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of medical supplies, inventory control, receiving, shipping and stocking preferred.

- Must have good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with staff and public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner.

- Effective computer and keyboarding skills.
- Must have ability to learn and use Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and Outlook.
- Ability to learn new computer software applications.
- Basic office machine skills preferred.
- Detail oriented.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- The employee will learn the Materiels Management (MM) computer inventory system to facilitate the entry of receipts, issues and pricing updates as required or requested.
- Will use various methods to monitor inventory levels for items to be ordered based on preset reorder points. Will generate computer purchase orders and will become proficient with EDI (electronic data interchange) software interface along with the MM system to place orders with various vendors.
- Assist with requests to help match Purchase Orders to Invoices to assist accounting personnel.
- Gather needed information and place special orders requested by departments through various methods to include MM computer system, phone, and various internet purchasing methods as requested.
- Monitor computer price updates and make pricing changes to computer system as requested.
- Develop a basic knowledge on Purchasing contracts and how they relate to overall medical supplies and the Materiels process.
- Assist in maintaining proper stock levels and make recommendations for changes in departmental PAR levels based on historical usage.
- Study all departmental requisitions to include online requisitions for proper unit of measure, reasonable quantity request and make necessary changes before filling requisition.
- Investigate medical supplies received to determine their billable status and apply accurate patient charge barcodes in a timely manner and stock locations accordingly.
- Receive and perform reconciliation of freight with Purchase Orders, packing slips, and manufactures reorder numbers to ensure accurate receipts. Report discrepancies and also inspect and report freight damage to the Materiels Supervisor or Manager and freight carrier. Prepare out-going freight.
- Must exhibit good communication skills, work well with co-workers and all hospital departments, follow complex detailed verbal and written instructions to complete assignments or tasks.
- Operates digital duplicating devices, power cutters, folders and other devises as required to produce quality in-house forms.
- Required to safely operate hydraulic freight lifting devices and battery/hydraulic powered mobile cart transport devices.
