Under the direction of the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs (Vice Dean) the Program Director, Competitive Advocacy Program (Program Director) will advise and oversee the administration of California Western School of Law’s (CWSL) student-run Moot Court Honors Board (MCHB), assist in managing and providing logistical support for all of CWSL’s Trial Practice Program. The Program Director will teach one advocacy course each term as determined by the Vice Dean. The Program Director must be flexible and available for frequent evening and weekend hours, especially during peak periods throughout the school term.

Qualifications:

• JD degree from an ABA accredited law school.
• Significant experience in trial practice, appellate practice, or ADR.
• Experience in administering and developing competitive advocacy programs preferred.
• Teaching experience preferred.
• At least one year of supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated ability and interest in working with a highly diverse student and employee population.
• Proficient at managing multiple priorities and accomplishing simultaneous demands while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize with the appropriate level of urgency.
• Must be well versed in Microsoft office.
• Experience in higher education a plus.

Skills:

• Intermediate level computer skills.
• Experience in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• General Internet skills are essential.
• Knowledge of effective internet search properties.
• Familiarity with website management, electronic communication and database systems, data analysis and interpretation required.
• Aptitude for learning new technology.

Primary Responsibilities (includes but not limited to):

• Plan, oversee, and coordinate all facets of California Western’s Competitive Advocacy Program (CAP) which are detailed below.
• Plan and maintain an annual budget that encompasses all facets of CAP.
• Supervise direct reports:
  1. Hire, train, coach, discipline, and evaluate direct reports.
  2. Delegate effectively to ensure workload is balanced for efficiency and effectiveness.
  3. Provide appropriate feedback and coaching to direct reports on a regular basis.
  4. Support and encourage direct reports to achieve performance and development goals.
  5. Be accountable for direct reports performance results.
  6. Provide leadership and guidance to direct reports.
• Oversee Trial, Appellate, and ADR Teams.
• Oversee Advocacy Events on Campus.
• Serve as Advisor to Moot Court Honors Board (15 – 20 students).
• Oversee Trial Practice, Advanced Trial Skills, and Advanced Appellate Skills Classes.
• General Promotion and Advancement of the Advocacy Program.

Compensation: $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 Annual Salary

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the law school reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the law school anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity and budget.
