Job Description
Quality Assurance is seeking an Industrial Engineer experienced in furniture design, who can analyze current and proposed products to provide ease of assembly for our consumers and delivery teams, while ensuring lasting quality. The right candidate will possess an analytical approach to problem solving by determining the root cause of product deficiencies and implementing product improvement designs to rectify them. The right candidate will possess a passion for furniture and understand how to reduce product costs in materials and freight, without compromising design or quality.
Responsibilities:
- Review CAD designs for proposed products to ensure our design and construction requirements are met.
- Evaluate the design and construction of current and proposed products to determine if assembly components can be reduced or re-engineered to simplify and reduce product assembly time.
- Evaluate the design and construction of current and proposed products to determine if KD construction can be implemented or improved to reduce the cubic feet of the packaged product, resulting in freight cost savings.
- Use CAD software to illustrate proposed engineering revisions for suppliers to use in manufacturing.
- Review current and proposed assembly instructions for our products to ensure that directions are straight forward and easy for the end user to understand.
- Review product return data to analyze and identify root causes of product deficiencies and propose corrective actions to resolve them.
- Review current and proposed product packaging to improve product protection during transit and handling.
- Work collaboratively with our product developers and merchandising team to illustrate product design changes using CAD software and communicate these changes with our manufacturing partners.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or Technical degree in Industrial Design/Engineering and/or furniture design.
- Proficient with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar software products.
- Practical knowledge of furniture construction, both case goods and upholstered furniture.
- Ability to work independently without daily supervision and able to complete assigned tasks by stated deadlines.
- Must be very detailed oriented and obsessed with taking notes during vendor meetings, merchandising meetings, and product reviews.
- Must possess strong communication skills and comfortable interacting with executives.
- Background in Quality Assurance or furniture manufacturing is a plus.
Candidate must have the ability to travel on occasion and be comfortable working in a corporate office environment, as well as manufacturing and distribution facilities. Candidate will have choice of being based in Atlanta, Tampa, or Dallas.
