About This Position
What better place to work as an arborist and tree expert than a city-wide arboretum? We are currently seeking our next Tree Maintenance Worker to join our Service Department. Under general supervision, climbs trees, operates light motorized equipment and performs skilled laborer tasks to assist with the care and maintenance of City-owned trees; Utilizes hand and power tools to maintain trees and equipment; performs other related duties as required.
Operates light motorized equipment to maintain City trees, bucket truck, chipper, chain saw, stump grinder, etc.
Trims, removes and plants trees and shrubs. Climbs trees for evaluation of tree condition; Prunes trees.
Removes tree stumps.
Applies herbicides, insecticides and fertilizer.
When necessary, responds to emergency call-in due to storm(s), vandalism or vehicle damage.
Inspects equipment for excessive wearing of parts; performs routine maintenance on City equipment (e.g. changes oil, lubricates moving parts, cleans filters, sharpens blades, etc.).
Performs other unskilled and semi-skilled tasks (e.g., cleans and paints building and equipment, mows and trims parks, repairs fences, shovels snow, spreads salt, etc.).
Other duties may be assigned.
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) with two years practical experience in tree maintenance and tree climbing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - Class B
International Society of Arboriculture (I S A) Certified Arborist - Preferred
Ohio Department of Agriculture Operator’s License (ornamental) - Preferred
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before citizens or employees of the City.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to interpret and follow instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a limited number of distinct tasks and functions in standardized situations
