POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS

Under direction, provides assistance to weed and litter control manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Securing/boarding of abandoned properties under supervision of the Division of Code Enforcement.
• Operates and/or supervises the operation of equipment and vehicles utilized in the weed cutting, litter and trash pickups and securing/boarding up structures.
• Cleans up after various area events. Sets up trash and recycling containers for parades, festivals, competitions and any special event.

• Performs manual labor grounds maintenance to city vacant lots.
• Performs a variety of outdoor and indoor maintenance tasks such as sweeping, raking, picking up trash from grounds and roadside; shoveling and spreading mulch, gravel and soils.
• Mows, edges, trims lawns, and trims trees and plants.
• Operates mowers, gas powered trimmers and blowers, chainsaws, vacuums and a variety of other small power tools.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates with Code Enforcement and City Maintenance to “board-up” unsafe housing to deter vandalism and unlawful entry, and to organize and direct a city weed-cutting crew.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposure to heat, cold, fumes, noise, dirt, dust while participating in outdoor litter clean ups, recycling drives and special events. The employee must use standard safety precautions due to exposure to cuts, abrasions or other injuries from exposure to broken glass, trash, spilled chemicals and other unsanitary or generally unhealthful conditions at dumpsites. Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens, illegal substances, and drug paraphernalia and instruments.
