Summary:
Join Woodwell Climate’s Research team as a temporary Summer Field Technician on salt marsh restoration projects. In this role, you will learn to understand how effective restoration activities impact salt marsh ecosystem services. These projects assess many key components of a marsh ecosystem such as carbon decomposition, water level changes, plant dynamics and sediment characteristics.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:Work as part of a small team to gain broad experience through field and laboratory work across interdisciplinary fields including biology, chemistry and ecology
Participate in field and laboratory measurements of sediments, plants, and water samples which includes walking through waist-high marine waters and marshProcess and analyze project data
Communicate positively with the public
Travel and work at Woodwell Climate and Waquoit Bay field sites from July through AugustMust have the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated skills in data organization and analysis
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to work independently and manage time
Good communications skills (verbal, written and interpersonal)
Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to Relevant coursework in Ecology, Biology, Chemistry or Marine Biology
Willing to endure occasional exposure to insects, ticks and poison ivyAbility and willingness to occasionally sample at irregular hours (early mornings, late nights, and weekends) as needed
Prior field experience and familiarity with the techniques and instrumentation used to quantify saltmarsh ecology or a related field is desired
- 1 year of field experienceB.A. in Ecology, Biology, Chemistry, Ecology or Marine Biology or relevant field preferred
Physical Requirements:
In the field, the physical requirements of this role include:
Air, train, vehicle travel to access field locations
Driving a vehicle or ATV to access field locations
Walking, hiking, climbing to access field locations
Paddling, canoeing to access field locations
Standing and sitting for sustained periods
Frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling
Reaching overhead
Climbing ladders
Use of manual and power tools including shovels, saws, drills, and hammers
Ability to lift up to 50lbs up to 10 times/day
Ability to carry up to 25lbs up to 10 times/day
Ability to push/pull up to 25lbs up to 10 times/day
Hours of Work:
This role is paid on a salary basis.
Typically, temporary, full-time employees work 40 hours during a Monday through Friday workweek with occasional early morning and weekend hours
Work Environment:
The functions of this role are conducted both indoor and outdoors

Classification and Compensation: This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt position, with an hourly wage of $22 per hour, dependent on qualifications/experience.
