About This Position
Transportation Security Officer (TSO) – Screening Partnership Program (SPP)
Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) under the Screening Partnership Program (SPP) are responsible for protecting the nation’s transportation systems by conducting effective passenger and baggage screening operations in accordance with TSA security requirements and Standard Operating Procedures.
Primary Duties
Perform passenger and baggage screening using advanced electronic imaging, X-ray, and detection equipment.
Conduct pat-down searches, alarm resolution, and other critical security procedures in compliance with established protocols.
Operate hand-held metal detectors, walk-through metal detectors, and X-ray systems to identify prohibited items.
Maintain situational awareness and apply threat detection principles to ensure the safety and security of the traveling public.
Communicate professionally and courteously with passengers, providing directions, assistance, and clear explanations of screening procedures.
Support checkpoint and baggage operations through assigned rotations to maintain vigilance and throughput efficiency.
Adhere to all security, safety, and customer service standards while maintaining confidentiality and integrity of operations.
Physical and Work Requirements
Lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
Stand and remain on duty for extended periods, including up to three consecutive hours.
Perform duties in a fast-paced, high-volume operational environment.
Qualifications
- Be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
- Proficiency in English, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Pass a computerized assessment (grammar and ability to interpret X-rays)
- Pass a medical evaluation (vision, hearing, and joint mobility exam)
- Pass pre-employment drug test
- Pass a TSA background and financial records check
- Ability to successfully complete required classroom training, on-the-job training, and all certification and recertification requirements.
- Ability to work any day, Monday – Sunday, and any shift between 12:00 AM and 11:59 PM
- Minimum Clearance to Start: Public Trust
- Ability to follow detailed procedures, work as part of a team, and respond effectively to changing operational conditions.
Training & Travel
- Receive on-the-job training
- Travel: Preplanned 2-week training session in Georgia
- Travel accommodations for the 2-week training session in Georgia to become a certified officer.
