NewFields invites you to join our team! NewFields MDTS is a close-knit team of hydrogeologists who work on exciting national and international mining projects. Our projects are often related to mine pit dewatering, underground mine dewatering, water supply, and mine water management and generally contain elements of data gap analysis, site characterization and predictive modeling. Our team works closely with the geotechnical and civil engineering teams who provide design services ranging from general civil site development to embankment designs for freshwater and tailings impoundments, and containment pads utilized in mineral processing. NewFields is a dynamic and growing employee-owned engineering firm that maintains an established profit-sharing program with our employees. Position
Senior Level IV to Senior Project Manager, Groundwater Modeler / Hydrogeologist
Position Summary
The Senior Groundwater Modeler/Hydrogeologist will be responsible for project management and leading the development and execution of technical scopes of work. Key responsibilities include overseeing field investigations, conducting data analysis, developing conceptual site models and numerical groundwater models, evaluating groundwater resources, and designing dewatering systems for open pit and underground mines. This work supports the needs of mining clients both in the U.S. and internationally.
Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and outstanding written and verbal communication abilities to effectively collaborate with the NewFields team, clients, regulators, and vendors.
As part of our leadership development strategy, this position offers the potential for expanded responsibilities, including the opportunity to step into the role of Hydrogeology Team Lead. The successful candidate will be considered for future senior leadership opportunities based on demonstrated performance, leadership capabilities, and alignment with our organizational goals.
Position Requirements
Education Requirement: A Masters Degree in Hydrogeology or related fields such as geology, hydrology, hydrochemistry, civil / geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, and water resource engineering.
Experience Requirement: 15 - 20+ years of experience working in the mining and mine water management sector.
Computer Software: Proficiency using Access, AQTESOLV, GIS software, and GW Vistas / MODFLOW is required. Proficiency using modeling programs such as FEFLOW, GoldSim, and Leapfrog is advantageous, as is experience with VBA, python, or any other scripting language.
Required Registrations/Professional Designations: Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer registration is advantageous.
Required Travel: Domestic and foreign travel required; variable depending on staff level and project needs but could be approximately 5 - 15%.
Position Location: Englewood, Colorado
Physical Demands: Position may require sitting for long periods of time, extended hours working on a computer and lifting up to 30 pounds. Field assignments are located in a variety of climactic conditions and may require standing, squatting, bending, the use of machinery and a variety tools.
Language Skills: Proficiency in Spanish is advantageous.
Position Responsibilities
- Complete and manage team-based project work resulting in client satisfaction and the on-time completion of high-quality technical work products.
- Prepare technical proposals.
- Develop and manage technical scope of work and field investigation activities such as drilling supervision, well construction, aquifer testing, packer testing, vibrating wire piezometer installation, surface and downhole geophysics, groundwater and surface water sampling and monitoring.
- Develop conceptual site models.
- Develop numerical groundwater models, numerical unsaturated flow models, and water balance models and use them as forecasting tools to support mining projects.
- Mentor junior staff.
- Prepare accurate and professional technical reports and presentations.
- Travel nationally and internationally, as needed to support project work.
