About This Position
The University of Montana invites applications for an Associate Director for Institutional Research (IR). The Associate Director will act as a liaison from the IR office to campus constituents, including meeting with stakeholders to scope projects of all sizes. This may include setting timelines and milestones or auditing technology solutions and existing data structures to determine feasibility of projects and resources needed to realize them.
- Supervise a team of five (5) analysts
- Provide professional development to the existing IR staff and participate in the team strength assessments and development and implementation of personalized training schedules
- Delegate and project manage team member responsibilities to satisfy external reporting requirements and internal data requests
- Create and implement and/or manage the creation and implementation of new data transformations across EDIFY Data warehouse, R and Python, our CLOUD Banner instance, and Tableau visualization software
- Produce large, detailed analyses requiring advanced analytical review with limited oversight
- Identify and implement potential process improvements based on project outcomes
- Help others analyze trends, gather information, make recommendations for process/reporting changes, develop new ideas or make proposals
- Update training/documentation as requested for stakeholders within and outside of the UM Office of Institutional Research
- Support the Director in managing the overall data strategy and campus data governance assets and processes
- Bachelor's degree in a data-related field (statistics, mathematics, computer science, etc.) or a relevant field with demonstrably strong analytical skills
- Proficiency in the use of Access; SQL and other query tools; visualization software such as Tableau; Excel; Word.
- Detail-oriented and able to provide analysis with consistency and clarity
- Responsive and results-oriented, possessing effective people skills and excellent verbal communication including the ability to communicate technical ideas to non-technical audiences
- Able to work under deadline pressure
- Knowledge of statistical analysis methods
- Demonstrated leadership ability in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or PHD in a data-related field
- Experience with areas of higher education such as IPEDS, the MT Office of the Commissioner for Higher Education, and/or accrediting bodies
- Proficient in managing a centralized data request process
- Experience performing presentations to executive-level leadership
- Experience supervising staff
- Proficient in working in long-standing working groups whose scope shifts based on student/stakeholder needs
